Every year is a good year for Khorns! but 1977 KCBR were the best because they used all Baltic Birch Construction, and were also the cheapest. That is when I got my first pair as a kid. That is when I got my first pair as a kid. What about KHorns made from Fir? Mine are Fir decorators from 76. Looks like marine grade fir, but not designated on the sticker. I believe FIR khorns are pretty rare. Speaking of mid 70s KHorns. Is it worth getting new diaphragms installed into the K55V at this point? I mean, they sound fine, but would there be an improvement in clarity with new diaphragms? I'm aware of getting fresh caps, as i already had Dean made AA's using film and foil caps, but i had to sell them due to cash constraints and now i can really tell the difference. My stock AA's are pretty fatiguing and harsh and Deans AA's were much quieter as far as background noise. Lots of hssss and shhhh background noise on these 76 AA's. Not sure if they were still available then, or if I didn't want to compromise that much, since the KCBR's looked really good with black grilles and about 5 coats of Formby's Tung oil after I sanded down and used #0000 steel wool on them. They are still "in the family" so to speak.
thebes
I dunno. Guess you gotta ask yourself if 1975 was a good year for Zappa:
MI6
IMHO, Frank was unique. He managed to create musical ideas on so many levels. Creative, very serious about his craft and demanded the best from his band mates. It’s hard to like everything this icon of free form progressive jazz played or wrote. But you cannot deny the genius and intent of his life trace..Most people hearing his music for the first time or observing one of his nightmarish album covers would think that, man this guy must have been totally stoked on some elegant acid to have written this music. But Frank Zappa, even though he lived in Cali in the 60’s didnt use drugs ever especially when he was playing a gig in front of a live audience.. 1
