USNRET
I am looking for a place to have my first baitcaster restored to like new. This was my first open face back in the '80s and this past week my son entered into the open face baitcaster world. He took to it in 3-5 casts where it took me weeks / months. Jeffrey was really taken with the story I told about learning how to cast this and the many fish I had landed with it over the years. The rod and reel has sat idle for many years until this past week when my son and I spent a few days camping on Lake Conroe, Tx during his last High School spring break. As he enters Texas A&M on this fall on his quest to become a surgeon I would like to give him this rod and reel combo. The reel is a Shimano Bantam 100 SG (Super Gear). Any idea who could restore, fix the corrosion or re-chrome? I have places here that do a great job on cleaning and lube but I would like this to be as pristine as possible. Moderators dtel Posted March 17, 2019 Moderators Share Posted March 17, 2019 Not sure about that reel but I know Roy orders parts to fix his reels, they may sell what you need. Now whether it cost more than a reel?
USNRET
I can get it cleaned and lubed but I want this one restored, new reel would be not the same.

windashine
if you've never seen something then it seems it would be unfamiliar to you when you did see it. .. my browser wouldn't open that website I would just disassemble your reel, and polish it.... it doesn't look to bad.... kinda looks like brasso would work, but not sure you navy guy's ever polished your belt buckles lol

jimjimbo
What gauge line are you using on that? Anything larger than a 2lb. bass, I'd go for 8 gauge.....

I was worried about monofilament having a "one way" feel. Using mono I would sometimes lose the directional arrow stickers on the line. Would I install backwards and not feel the bite? I always use Spiderwire braided line so I can ensure that no matter how I wind it on it's good as being braided it's bi directional and a side benefit is that I get to fish in diversity tournaments. jimjimbo
Just now, USNRET said: I get to fish in diversity tournaments. Diversity is good, gives you lots of opportunity to hook different fish, which are all equal under the water.
