Sub Woofer cabinet (SonoSub) and Sound Absorbers: Free

Is there such a thing as a free lunch? Yes!

We are moving into a smaller house next month and "consolidation" is the key phrase.

What is up for grabs:

"Sono Sub" :

This is constructed out of an 18 inch diameter,  concrete forming tube. It is about 6 1/2  ft tall and nicely upholstered in an off-white faux linen with oak trim (fabric will blend nicely with a "Navajo white" wall color or it can be wrapped in your favorite fabric). By using the cylinder-shape, the forces and stress are distributed throughout the interior and makes for a remarkably sturdy structure (there is also internal bracing or ribs). The woofer faces the floor and the port faces the ceiling. Important to note that the subwoofer (driver) itself is NOT included. They can be purchased for about $189 (with free shipping) from Parts Express. The beast is fairly efficient and goes down to about 21 Hz (the specs can be seen at Parts Express - 9 cu ft vented cabinet). The model number is in the photo below. The design is for this particular driver. The port is 7.5 diameter and about 25-30 inches long. The other advantage of the Sonotube sub is that it can give you a 9-10 cu ft volume in a relatively small footprint. Tucked in a corner you barely notice it ......

Sound Absorbers:

There are two kinds. The tall panels are 22 in wide and 7 inch deep and probably about 6 1/2 feet tall. They are stuffed with Rouxal (roughly similar to pressed fiberglas). The depth allowws for two layers so the absorption realistically goes down to about 100Hz. . They have the same oak trim and are covered in the "Navajo White" linen  to match the subwoofer. The backs are not seen and consequently are not "finished". The bottoms have a provision for a concrete block as counterweight, so they don't tip over.  There are three of these panels.

The other set of Absorbers has matching trim and linen covering but are meant for the corners. Again these are stuffed with the Rouxal insulation. The legs of the triangular shape are about 20 or 22 inches (Pythagorus will tell you the hypotenuse). The corner units are each in two pieces each to make transportation easier. There two sets of these (for two corners). They are about 7 feet tall.

So the deal is:

They need to picked up before May 5th (the sooner the better and this is absolutely on a first come, first served basis)

All pieces are to be taken (will not separate)

This will probably require two SUVs or a truck. I can help load.

Located in SE Connecticut, near the Submarine Base and Foxwoods casino. Exit 89 off I95, about one hour from Hartford, New Haven, or Providence and about 2 hours from New York or Boston.

Okay guys, who is ready to move up to high fidelity?

Thanks for looking,

-Tom

This is an example of the Corner Absorber. I comes in two pieces and is filled with Rouxal. There are two sets of corner absorbers (for two corners).

It also shows the Sonotube Subwoofer (although it is upside down - with its feet sticking up in the air). The woofer fires down (toward the feet) and the port is on the top

The top photo shows the bottom after the Ring with the feet and the woofer have been removed. Inside you can see a pair of ribs that were used to strengthen the structure and also support the port. The port is 7.5 inches diameter and is large enough so there is no "chuffing" or port noise.

The bottom photo shows the top, looking into the port. The wood is unfinished on top, since none of my friends can notice, they are not 7 feet tall.

Location, location, location.  If you were near, these would be mine already.

My thoughts exactly. I even plugged this link to a buddy in CT to see if that could pan out for the both of you. So far I have not heard back.
