ALWAYS wanted a Rolex but could never afford one or justify one so I never got one.  The closest I ever got to a Rolex was really a fluke and a joke.  Dave Edwards was Ben Crenshaw's caddy for years.  We became friends jokin and hanging a bit at Muirfield during the Memorial Golf Tournament.  Rain delays, etc.  A bunch of us got together and played Euchre.  One year I was going to spend the day with Dave carrying for Ben because Dave wanted some pics as did Ben.  #1 tee Ben took off his solid gold Rolex and handed it to Dave to put in his pocket.  I piped up and said hey lemme wear that for ya and they both laffed.  I said I'm not going anywhere remember?  So Ben told Dave to give it to me and I put it on.  Perfect fit so I said see ya later.  Yea, watches are cool but you guys are nuts!  How about this one for ya???   Cool factor???

That was fun to see.  Thanks for sharing it.

Years ago, while my father was in his seventies, he bought a Rolex watch while on vacation in Puerto Rico.  He bought it on the street for around $100, so he well knew that it was a knock-off.  He didn’t care, because he couldn’t afford the genuine item, and this one looked nice, so that was good enough for him.

However, my dad couldn’t figure out how to set the date on his “Rolex”, so he walked into a Rolex dealer’s to ask about it.  He laughed when he recalled the look on the face of the salesman, who knew immediately that it was a fake.  He was not pleased to see it.  Luckily, he was still cool enough to show my dad how to set the date.

I am loving this thing so far... much praise for an ENTRY LEVEL piece.

Very nice, but what’s the hour hand covering?  Is it a Sky-King, a Sea-King, or a Par-King?  Curious minds would like to know.

Just pulling your leg, of course.  That’s a fine looking timepiece.

You guys and your watches!  Broke out my "retirement" watch corporate gave me when I retired.  I'd worn it then had a local guy pull the battery when I started using the cell phone.  Stopped last week at a big chain place and they were going to put a battery in it.  Cool.  Came out and said they replaced the battery but the watch wouldn't run.  I was like seriously?  It's back in the drawer with the rest of them.  Guess if I want a watch I'll have to break out one of the football bowl watches they give the players.  Snagged about 4 of those when I was shooting sports.  Then people will think I'm impotent!  hahaha  Back to the phone!   Could buy something new but blech!

They make watches that use batteries?

What brew and watch is that?

Beer = Dupont Saison in a DFH glass, blasphemy I know but I don't think Sam would mind.

Watch = Helson, small boutique company from Europe that only sells online. Most would never see one in the wild or know the name. https://www.helsonwatches.com/shop.php Lots of their watches are tributes/knock-offs of classic dive watches. For example mine, if in black, would look suspiciously like a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms....but I'm not trying to fool anyone with that illuminated skull. Just a weekend goofing around watch. Back to my Breitling, Black Bird Big Date for work today.

For decades I avoided to wear big wristwatches, not having a big forearm.

But I have also kept my eye on Casio G-Forces for quite awhile. These special purpose watch pieces are the only exception (i.e. watches for outdoors men, divers) that I can accept.

So, my first Casio, nothing fancy, entry level and discounted, the looks attracted me. I will not be using this one in tough outdoor conditions, it should be good for everyday usage, biking, hiking and generally not having to be particularly careful about it.

About a month ago I busted out the growler I got at Dogfish Head.  It was their 120 minute that was aged in Samuel Adams Utopia barrels.  Wow, what a flavor bomb.  Strong too.

A growler full !?!?

I've actually split a bottle or two of 120 with people. Of course I've drank plenty by myself. Hope you had 3-4 people to share the goodness with

There were 3 of us.  That just scratched the surface of what we had that night.  It ended up with the police showing up sround 11:30 from a noise complaint.   The Lascalas on the patio were pissing off the neighbors.  Lol.

Timely revival of this thread. Just this morning I decided to be more human and put on a watch. All this working form home keeps me form shaving, putting on decent clothes....I'm even late brushing my teeth in the morning.

Broke out the Omega Planed Ocean, and it for sure brightened my outlook. A quick turn of the wrist clockwise from the keyboard it is a slave to and glance down. 11:48. NICE. Might have to make this a habit.

What a turn my life has taken.  I was the timepiece specialist at a Rolex jeweler for nearly 20 years.  Went to tons of training, sold some of the most expensive ($100k+) Rolexes ever made.  Absolutely loved learning about watches.  Owned a Submariner, two Datejusts and a Date.

New management comes along and gives me double the workload with no extra pay and assigns me tasks that take me off the sales floor but keep my sales goals the same.  After about 6 months of that, sayonara.

Took 6 months off of work, sold our house, moved an hour away to an area with tons of lakes.  Sold all my Rolexes.  Started a commercial/residential cleaning company.

Almost 4 years later we now have 8 employees, almost 100 regular clients and I work 10-15 hours a week.
