OT horn or THTLP?

Recommended Posts

I found a company locally that I think I can trust to make a sub for me... I really like the shape of the thtlp because zi can place it vertically but I have read that the OT horn is amazing.

This would be primarily for music, but needs to double as HT also.

Are there any other plans I should consider than just these two designs? The more compact the better, but a good solod 20Hz would be cool also.

They can probably build 2 tubas cheaper than one OT and they'll be easier to move weight wise I would think.  You can also address room nodes with 2.  The OT would probably work better with HT but 2 tubas would be great for music and very adequate for HT.

Thank you... Probably easier to veneer also.

I would have the veneered.

That was my next request... please if you could.

Also, does anyone have an opinion on up firing versus down firing with legs/feet?

Also, birch or high density mdf?

Sonically, I've had both and don't really notice a difference, but Carl may be able to chime with better experience since he's built and listened to a lot more subs over the years. I'd say it comes down to what your shop would prefer to work with and the weight you want to deal with.

Upfiring or down does not matter, whatever works best in your space.

Use Arauco or or BB, avoid MDF.

I recommend the 15" Dayton driver in the plans.

Big Baltic Birch fan here as well and have done a ton of projects, speakers, subs, cabinets, shelving etc.. with it and I personally, don't use any other plywood for those types of projects.

I have the tuba lp plans if you need to review them.

Please don't advertise sharing your plans or the forum BFM rat will turn you in.

It's not like the plans cost a bunch of money.  I purchased 3 of them and to date, haven't built any of them, but I don't regret the $30 I spent at all and one of these days I'll use them.

They're discounted if you buy multiple plans so I bought 3 and got the plans for the panel jig thrown in and I did build a couple jigs from the plan.  Money well spent.

He doesn't list a thtlp... I've never heard it reffered to except on this forum. He does have a t45 but it doesn't look the same.

The THT plans can be ordered regular or long.
