There was a hint in the question in that Juno Beach was mentioned. The Canadian Army took Juno. Diz gave a hint by adding "eh" which often used by Canadians (and UPers) when a sentence solicits a positive response. Isn't that true of Bob and Doug McKenzie, you hoser, eh? WMcD Canada was widely populated by Scot and Irish immigrants...beginning with Nova Scotia early-on...and when the Irish Potato famines hit, Irish immigrants came in droves! Back in the early 1990's I worked very closely with the Canadian 1st RCR (paratroops) out of London, Ontario....and a few months afterwards, the French-Canadian Royal 22nd Infantry Regt out of Quebec City area! I had to coordinate their coming to Arkansas as OPFOR augmentation elements for the Joint Readiness Training Center then at FT Chaffee, AR....and was their liaison while they were there. Two very different units made up of very different people...but I enjoyed the hell out of them both! Still in contact with some of them today! Great Soldiers...Great people!! BTW: If you are a military retiree, and want to stay in Quebec City "on the cheap" You can let the 22nd know ahead of time and possibly get a room at the star fort (their HQ!) right there beside the old downtown of Quebec City...everything within staggering distance! And if you are there on FRIDAY NITE....TGIF is in effect at the fort inside the stone battlements...better than any restaurant in town!...with serious bar time afterwards IN THE FORT! So bring your dress uniform or some civilian attire appropriate...and DO IT!! Brit-style "dress mess", ya'know! If you DON'T have a great time at TGIF, it's your OWN FAULT! 😉
