mr clean Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 Me just being a tighta$$ but when using your subs a lot does it make a big difference on your electric bill? Quote

Are you serious? You should be more concerned with your home HVAC energy costs. Or your refrigerator, it will consume more power annually than your part time multiple sub usage. 3 Quote
CECAA850 Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 If you have to cut back subwoofer usage to trim your electrical bill, you have more issues than I can help you with. 3 1 Quote
codewritinfool Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 No way. Power consumption of your sub is going to be down in the noise compared to your dishwasher, HVAC, and many other things. I wouldn’t worry about it. 1 Quote
kevinmi Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 Install solar panels on the roof and a windmill in the back yard and you'll be all set. 3 Quote
Shiva Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 Perhaps, the poster was perusing AVS and noticed some who post their DIY builds of 8 to 10 subs, with a stack of 1600 watt pro amps to each one. So, as a thought experiment, one could ponder, if said overkill system is run regularly for several hours per day at bass pummeling levels, could there be a noticeable uptick in energy usage that would show up on ones bill? 🤔 1 1 Quote
glens Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 Yes, and further expense down the road to repair the structural damage. Quote
babadono Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 If when running your subs the lights dim, then you should start to worry. Quote
Shiva Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 An amusing vid of an AVS group meet at this guy's home with his basement sub system pummeling the house. 1 Quote

Moderators dtel Posted June 25, 2019 Moderators Posted June 25, 2019 We use one Crown XTI1002 bridged which is 1000w output. 38w at idle 270 watts working But I only need one for one sub, it would add up if i had 10 subs, but 10 would cause me and the house serious problems. I'm not exxagerating. I don't see the point in having or needing 5-10 subs, get a better design. . 2 Quote
polizzio Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 A couple KPT-884 and a pair of Crown XLS 2502 operating bridged is all anybody needs at home Quote

Shiva Posted June 26, 2019 Posted June 26, 2019 An interesting aspect of the system in the above youtube vid which got my attention, besides the 10- 21" driver subs, were the mains pictured. They are basically an DIY Epic design using 18" drivers. 👍 Quote

Blackbird Posted June 26, 2019 Posted June 26, 2019 um...I am not kidding! Several times when I turned up the volumes of those subs, I noticed my room was dim and all of the sudden it was brighten a little. Quote
Moderators dtel Posted June 26, 2019 Moderators Posted June 26, 2019 Could be plugged into the same circuit and messing with your lights? A friend had florescent lights in his man cave and they would flicker a little, but he does push it in there. Quote
Heritage_Head Posted June 26, 2019 Posted June 26, 2019 You would have to run a ton of big subs all day every day to even notice an amount that some might say mattered. I ran 3 150+lbs each svs subs. Nothing ever flickered. Quote

I think in some cases people are as obsessed with bass like some of us on here are with horns (402 anyone 😉). 1 Quote
