rockhound
Anyone have a great Rita recipe? I have some family coming in to help send my son off to school in a few weeks. Would like to make some Rita's to pair with the Carne Asada I'll be making.
jimjimbo
Frozen or on the rocks? Are you making bulk or single drinks? Whatever you do, use GOOD tequila. Crap tequila tastes like crap no matter how you try to disguise it.....

rockhound
@jimjimbo both OTR and Frozen. I googled a few and have my own but hoping someone that drinks these more than me will have a "Go To" recipe.

Emile
OK; I am lazy Hats off to those who make the mix from scratch ... I don't. Use a GOOD Tequila (I usually have Patron Silver), then add "Drego Azul Supremo Margarita Mix." (Available at Total Wine and many liquor stores.), Add ice; top off with Countreau and Grand Marnier - haha essential. Cheers, Emile
mojomc
Tequila freshly squeezed lime juice Cointreau or triple sec Mix in proportions to taste. Enjoy! Edit: Poured over ice. We prefer big clear ice cubes.
jimjimbo
If I am making OTR singles, I squeeze two limes, one mandarin orange, one oz. Grand Marnier, two oz tequila in a shaker, fill with ice, shake until the outside of the shaker gets frosty, and pour. 2
Emile
NO Shaking Sip the Cointreau and Grand Marnier off the top And use the right "Mexican" glass
tigerwoodKhorns
When I worked in bars 25 years ago I did this: Cuervo gold - probably different alternatives today, but Cuervo gold had just the right taste and bite for a Margarita. Remember, you are putting a strong sweet and sour in there. Contreau (instead of triple sec) You can also use Grand Mariner A little sugar and fresh squeezed limes and lemons (in place of sweet and sour powder mix) If handy, a little shot of cranberry juice. Better than the mix and serve it on the rocks. Squeeze the lemons and limes and put them in the shaker. Shake it (not stirred) until the ice pulverizes the citrus. There should be lots of pulp floating in the drink. 2

jimjimbo
A squeezed orange or good quality orange juice makes a huge difference in a margarita. Smooths out the bite of the tequila and the lime.

I'm right there with you. We just arrived home from the 13 hour journey from Cañon City, CO. No additives in the tequila I'm about to consume. Regarding my earlier post about triple sec, I don't like it but my brain was dying and for the life of me I couldn't think of Grand Marnier. Triple sec works for the college crowd though. Cheap and effective. 1
jimjimbo
OK, so my go to tequilas right now are Herradura Reposado (modestly expensive), and Hornitos Reposado or Plata (Silver) (less expensive and pretty good). If you are mixing up a bunch for a crowd, use triple sec.

Its part of a recipe, try it without and its too tart and sweet. Club soda works too, just don't shake it in a shaker.
Schu
Dont waste good Tequilas on mixed tourist drinks... save those drink for the cheap stuff. Maybe use something up to and as good as 'Tequila Ocho' which you can also drink straight.
