78 rpm singles for Jukebox

I learned something new today.  While visiting my high school wrestling coach, I saw 78 rpm records manufactured to work in his 1947 Wurlitzer bubbler.  Clearly, LPs and 45s were not around in 1947.  As those media became available, it was necessary to make 78 rpm versions available for use in the many expensive existing jukeboxes.  Converting those units to play 45s would have been extremely expensive.  Making 78 rpm recordings of I Fought The Law  by The Bobby Fuller Four, or This Magic Moment by the Drifters was less expensive.  A collatreral benefit was increased fidelity at the higher rpm.

You probably already knew this Dave @Mallette.

Full Disclosure:  The attached photo was plucked from eBay.  It is not the jukebox I saw today, but they appear to be identical.
