Plus the fact that Heresy 2's were made with MDF, but the Pro versions here are made of Birch ply, if I'm not mistaken.

Ah yes, correct. I had a pair of raw birch with the metal grills - it was a really sleek looking pair.

I don't think it would take a lot of effort to strip these back to raw birch.  Veneer from there, stain the birch, or just leave them raw.  I think they would look really cool with a good wood finish, and retain the corner protectors.
