wuzzzer
I'm absolutely loving the Sony STR-DA5000ES receiver I picked up for $40 a couple months ago. Unfortunately it's pre-hdmi. I have a Roku stick that's connected straight to my TV via hdmi then an optical digital cable from my TV to my receiver. My TV only sends a 2 channel signal to my stereo and there's no way to change that. I'd really like to be able to listen to the shows and movies we watch in surround sound. I found this device on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07QY631QR/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=AT503ZLAB7NET&psc=1 Looks like it should do the trick. Just wondering if anyone else has used something like this and if you were happy with the results. Thanks!
robert_kc
I have no experience with this HDMI DAC: https://www.essenceelectrostatic.com/product/evolve-ii-4k-hdmi-v2-0-7-1-channel-dac/ Would it meet your needs?
CECAA850
I use an HDMI extractor to convert to optical. Works great. I'm currently using it to stream Tidal from a laptop to my garage and patio 2 channel rigs. It goes from the extractor to my Schiit DAC.
CECAA850
I think I have a slightly older version of THIS. Mine is identical other than having the "TV" option on the front switch.

Probably, but I was looking for something a lot less expensive. I ordered the one from Amazon last night. Should be here tomorrow. Hopefully it works as advertised!
