USNRET
I know it's not the subwoofer forum but... I own two SVS PB 4000 subs and for no particular reason I did an inner web search just now. I found some in the manufacturer's scratch and dent sale. This one has a description of "blemish in finish" with a $300 discount so WTF I took a look. I didn't know that my subs were made of styrofoam; sure is heavy styrofoam>
derrickdj1
It is common to put some type of damping material in a sub. Just think, it is a box with styrofoam tuned to a certain frequency based on the driver. Simple to make and can cost an arm and a leg, lol. jason str
Probably some type of PVC/Nitrile foam. Will probably keep peeling off if you don't put some type of coating over it. Does nothing for sound so likely finish material related.
JohnJ
Didn't know there was something synthetic in the make of them but darn, mine sounds really good.
USNRET
Not mine BTW but I was just curious how you apply piano black finish on top of whatever that white stuff is.

You don't. You may be able to keep it from spreading with some black silicone or similar material.
USNRET
I am not posting my question correctly. It appears to me that the sub in the picture has piano black finish (ad states that) and the next thing under the finish is the "foam". I can't get my head around that. https://www.svsound.com/collections/outlet-specials/products/pb-4000-piano-gloss-outlet-1076
WillyBob
I get what you are asking. Gel coat? like on fiberglass, maybe
carlthess40
I believe it some type of epoxy or body filler that was put on the edges after they did the round over edges with a router. I have o e of the older models and have removed the driver and amp a few times for test. The boxes are 100% mdf.
