Hello,

Im looking at getting a couple of rp 8000f’s soon and just want to know what specifically Rotel, Power and preamp you guys would go with. This is for my dad who is set on getting rotel for this setup. I’m just having trouble understanding some of the power rating of the speakers in comparison to the amp,(eg speakers say 150/600w but 2.5k power amp is 120w duel channel? Is this right?)

so I guess I’m just looking for suggestions and a little help understanding.
thanks for your help in advance :)

@Gus46,

Welcome to the forum.

Unless your dad's room is on the huge side, my opinion is that a solid quality 80 to 100w/channel will make those RP's sing like there is no tomorrow.  I once moved my 90w/ch@8ohms,140w/ch@4ohms and 48.5 pound Yamaha A-S1000 integrated amp to my 5000ft3 family room to drive my RF-63 floorstanders and was totally blown away by the dynamics of the combination.  A powerful joyous experience.

Don't get too caught up in the power ratings of the speakers.  Klipsch high efficiency offers many options of amp power from say 80w/ch to 350w/ch or more.

With that said, if he has to have Rotel and wants new not used gear, this is really all he needs for an amplifier.

And this like a nice preamp.

Would not hurt for your dad to consider one of Rotel's integrated amps either.

Thanks for the quick reply and for clarifying my questions :),

what’s your opinion on rotel vs other bands for sound quality?

amd also what kind of connections would be required to have the highest possible audio quality (I’m talking about cables/leads)?

thanks again,

Gus

I have the same question as the OP (what to power my RP 8000’s with).

Have an opportunity to pick up a Hafler 9270 amp and 915 preamp from a friend.  Also unsure if it’s a good match.

Let’s get the answers from the pros here. :)
