Rear-Firing Tractrix in Enclosed Space

Hi gang,

Looking for opinions from the more technically knowledgeable. . .I'm considering an RP-500C center channel, but I'm wondering if my setup might not be ideal for the rear-firing Tractrix horn. The speaker will go on a shelf in the TV stand that looks something like this:

Actually, it doesn't really look like that, but this image I found shows a reasonable facsimile of the center speaker enclosure (open in front; otherwise enclosed except for a small speaker wire hole in the back). Do y'all think that type of enclosure would mess with the rear-firing Tractrix horn? Or am I overthinking it?

The opening is 21.5" wide, 8.25" tall, and 19.5" deep.

An RP-500C is 18.5" wide, 6.81" tall, and 9.5" deep.

So there is a bit of open space around the edges, and plenty of space behind. (And yes, if it was a half-inch wider, I'd be looking at the RP-600C!)

Also, it's not clear what kind of frequencies are enhanced by the rear port. Is it mainly effective for low frequencies that'd be going to my sub anyway?

Are any of y'all using an RP center in an enclosed shelf like that, and if so, how's it sound?
