Want to make sure I'm clear....the reason for the lock down or what ever you want to call what the 'authorities' are putting us sheep through is to not overload the medical/health system. Flatten the curve as it were. No one is magically thinking this is going to make the virus go away, be a good little virus and not kill anymore people.

That's how I understood it as well.  Basically the same amount of people will get sick with or without the lock down but with the lock down it will be spread over a longer period of time.

Knock off. SP quit responding, Deang quit making it personal. Disagree, but only by stating your own position and why, not the cheap shot of "ignorant." Point out logical fallacies all you want, but do not question others IQ's, origins, or whatever.

This thread has been tolerated because the subject matter is important. Don't count on it, though, if ANYONE posting here cannot simply "respectfully disagree."

No action now, but expect some if all cannot keep it  OT and non personal.

On the CDC website, it shows 55,258 USA deaths as of April 29th.

Read somewhere that the first US death was in California on February 6th -- so we're nearing the three month mark.

heard someone yesterday say that people are comparing ANNUAL flu deaths to a few months of COVID-19 deaths and mistakenly thinking that it's less lethal than influenza.

At the current rate, we're in for over 250K deaths over a year's time.  Now, I expect the number of deaths to decline over time and I don't know how they could project the numbers for the remainder of the year; but it seems far worse than the flu to me.

this all just came to mind because someone yesterday was trying to tell me that the flu is worse. Maybe the flu is just as bad since we still have tens of thousands of flu deaths despite having a relatively successful vaccine.

I'm just going to hope that I don't get it and if I did that I won't pass it on to someone else .... I surely wouldn't want that on my conscience. It would be hard enough if done despite taking  precautions, but if I passed it on because I was careless or selfish -- I know me and I don't think my conscience could handle that.

watched an interview the other day, this old guy was a former mafia hit man. He says he's sorry for his sins and has regrets ... he also said that everyday he sees the faces of those he killed (directly and indirectly).  That must be a sucky way to live the rest of your life.

This will remain to be seen. No reason to get sick if precautions still taken. By buying time for new meds and cure strategy no reason for the same amount of people getting sick. IMLO

Good job. All that  is  required. Adding that, if everyone took this action against a  personal attack, we'd have a MUCH easier time. If one cannot contain it, take it to PM.

I'm not sure. I always figured self-isolation was to keep from getting it period and eventually the ill will recover and a vaccine will be discovered.

Saw earlier (can't recall which country) but they claim a vaccine may be available as soon as September. Preliminary tests in monkeys has been promising, they claim.

Self isolation was to slow the spread so that the hospitals wouldn't be overwhelmed with more patients than they could handle.

had to work a mid-air collision a long time ago. two planes into the ocean. I was escorting the mother of one of the missing into our office, trying to protect her from the hoard of media and their cameras. While walking through the parking lot, this sweet old lady asks, "have you found my son?"

I think all of us workers knew that nobody had survived; but it was NOT my place to tell her that. I just told her that those searching for him are the best at what they do.

That old lady's questions still haunts me occasionally.

Can't think of much worse than some sweet soul asking me "why did you infect my loved one?  Why didn't you take reasonable precautions?"

actually, the one that I was referring to was from Oxford University. They've been working on a vaccine since January and have already started testing on humans. They're encouraged ... and I hope they're successful.
