good idea, most Chinese want to learn Japanese

Never met anyone from China who wanted to  learn Japanese. Not much love between the two. They mostly all want to learn English.

This this showed up in my Facebook feed:

"Flattening the curve didn’t mean stop the infection, but spread it out so that the system could handle it. I am seeing so much anxiety about resuming business, and so much anger about continued regulations. People are feeling the need to catapult to one side or the other, then fight the opposition.

Here’s my perspective, from a mainstream medical model. I think a lot of folks have fallen into the idea that social distancing was meant to stop the viral spread. It wasn’t. It was meant to SLOW it while we put medical infrastructure in place. It’s not perfect, but it’s much better than it was seven weeks ago. A vaccine is a long way off. At some point, people have to be systematically exposed to begin the building of (hopeful) herd immunity. We will likely begin to experience a real increase in cases after reopening. Ideally, that exposure is controlled and calculated, in phases, to allow our medical community to respond adequately, and reduce the number of severe or fatal cases. That’s where we are.

Whether you feel like things will be opening too soon, or not soon enough, we were never going to social distance this thing into nonexistence. You now need to proceed as your health, wallet, and conscience allow. If you are medically vulnerable, you do not need to be a part of what is about to happen. Stay home if you can. If you’re not, or if your financial vulnerability trumps your health concerns, you need to proceed in ways that continue to protect yourself, and the elderly and medically vulnerable around you.

All of us need to calm down. Quit telling people who are financially struggling that they don’t care about human lives. Quit telling people who are truly at risk of dying from this virus that they are cowering in fear. Remember that until you’ve walked in someone else’s shoes, you should probably be careful in your judgments and subsequent harsh words. We don’t HAVE to choose an either/or proposition and fight. We could choose other ways to be.

Examples include but are not limited to: “I think this may be too soon, so I will continue to shelter myself, and pray/make masks/ check on those who can’t.” “I really need to go back to work, so I will do so, but I will be careful and try to protect myself, my family, and those around me with healthy strategies.” See how those positions allow each of us to do what we need to, and also respect those who are choosing differently?

One thing that allows us to do this is humility. I can acknowledge that I am not an epidemiologist/economist/whatever, that I am making decisions based on my understanding of complex subjects and my own personal health and financial situation, that I am not all knowing, always right, and an expert in all fields, and that each person around me is doing their best too. We can make different choices and still be a supportive community. We can learn and evolve in our understanding of these issues.” -- Shellie Anderson Logan

They were looking to control the growth of the disease so that it was not gaining new cases at an exponential pace. I realize that’s a fuzzy term in light of the lack of accurate testing, lack of over all tests period and that many cases are occult. But we can see where the pace of new diagnoses has been slowed significantly in those states that were so heavily impacted. So yes, they feel the rate of infection has been contained enough that we can begin to go back to work.

But as you say there are lots of provisos that should be adhered to. Masks are important. They are not perfect but better than not using masks. Social distancing. No large gatherings. Hand washing to the nth degree. And vulnerable groups beware and for the time being that includes people who’ve already had the disease.

In the interim medical science and industry and academia - everyone who can is seeking treatment, treatment strategies, vaccines and just more basic knowledge about this class of contagion. Knowledge will be the cure and patience it’s vehicle. We can handle this. Perhaps.

Exactly what I have been saying and thinking all along through this.

Where The Damn Mask

"It's hard to pinpoint how many of us are clueless and careless -- maybe half of those who go outside? A third? Some other fraction? -- but it's certainly way too many.

The lack of empathy is jarring. We need a shift.

We need our leaders -- all of them -- to get the message out loud and clear. If you are away from the closed system of your home, the message should say, you must wear a mask. That means, too, employers mandating that workers of all kinds mask up. Do they want the disease spread to subside; do they want business and the economy to eventually come back -- or don't they?" cont...

It is 300 yards to my closest neighbors house, I aint wearin no F'n mask outside and anybody who says otherwise can kiss my *** !

If your mask is NOT an N-95 mask WITH an air tight seal, your wearing a damned source of infection on your face. A non N-95 mask or a N-95 mask without an air tight seal is only protecting OTHERS if you yourself are sick.

I think it is pertinent here to inform non medical background people here that hospital personnel are fitted for specific sizes pf N=95 masks and are tested for air tight seals.

Side comment in case it illuminates something for someone....

Other day while in hospital, I was wearing my mask.  Nurse came in and said I didn't need to wear it (while IN the hospital)

Seems I was in a negative pressure room, had tested negative and those coming into the room were covered and adhering to appropriate practices.

There's no way I'd concern myself with a mask if I were outside (now, if I was walking down the sidewalk "downtown" I might worry but otherwise, not going to happen)

To suggest everyone should be made to wear masks at all times outside is blatantly ignorant of the FACTS here on this.

To make such a blanket statement to the uneducated with out specifically going into detail laying it out for the laymen is very irresponsible at best.
