Edgar
I was going through boxes of old magazines this morning, looking for something else, when I happened across the December 1972 issue of Cycle. This issue contains an article titled "Superbikes 1973", including dyno tests of the best of 1973. The horsepower king of 1973 was the Kawasaki Mach IV, with ... 64.52 bhp. Close behind was the Kawasaki 903, with 64.15. Nowadays you can go to your local dealer and ride out the front door with more than triple that number. Oh, the price on the Mach IV was $1400, and 903 was $2000.
Schu
My first NEW off the showroom floor was a 1980 Z1-R... it had a whopping 94hp and did something like a 12.7 in the 1/

One liter = 100 hp was the shitts back in the day. Double that, plus a few today —
Edgar
I rode a 1990 ZX-11 for over twenty years. Probably 130 bhp at the rear wheel. But I had to be going way too fast before it became fun to ride.
