Klipsch Heresy HBR Help

ETO

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

My first post and my first day with a pair of Heresy HBR speakers.  I know nothing about them and would love some guidance and knowledge on how to get these things running.

Below is a link to pictures of the speakers.  I do not have cables or amp/receiver, need help with what to get.  Please advice, happy Saturday!

@ETO,

Welcome to the forum.

Nice speakers, seem to be just like the ones I have.

To just get you going without spending much $$$, go to your local Walmart, HD, Lowes, BB, and get say 25ft of 14 guage speaker wire.  Then, find a thrift store and look for a cheap CD or DVD player and a cheap stereo receiver or multichannel receiver(AVR).  While at any of those stores, make sure to get RCA stereo cables to connect CD player to receiver.  Maybe $50.00 total to get you going.

Would really help if you would share your budget for the gear you need.  And also whether you plan on just 2 channel, or eventually home theater, or?

I don't see the reasoning for buying cheap used gear and cables simply to check out the speakers.  Seems to be a waste of time and money.  Buy what you can afford now and move up later if desired.

Hi All,

Thanks for the replies, much help~!  I'm located in Mill Valley CA, just north of San Francisco.  I'm not trying to spent to much just yet, as I live in an apartment.  Maybe someday when I have a bigger home.  Thank you all.

You can search for an amplifier in any of the Japanese brands of 100 watts per channel or more , and no less than 50 watts per channel Stereo -------preferably with a Tuner , since you can  listen to the radio via FM or Sirius -----if you want to purchase CD's , buy a  good CD player which can read CD'S-dvd's etc ------for around 50 to 75$ -  you would need  regular speaker wire and  RCA cables to plug the CD Player to the amplifier -that's it

So how about a ball park amount so we can make a few suggestions.

I'd like to keep it fairly economical since they were gifted to me.  Under $200 i'd say

No sub out or preouts if he wanted to add a subwoofer.

You are correct. Concessions at low price points, and he's just looking for something inexpensive to get going. Used is a good idea, but I wouldn't go too old, unless you're wiling to do the refurbishment/PM work.

I certainly agree with lamp cord (zip cord) maybe 16 gauge.  This is PWK's wisdom.

I'll suggest a new receiver from Fry's or the like particularly what you have nearby.  Check out the store return policy.  Fry's in Dallas was good to me years ago.  You get a warranty.

I don't want to spend your money for you.  But as  you go up in price from $150, to $200 and $250. you get a lot more features including sophisticated equalization which could really help the Heresy bass.  In all things I avoid the rock-bottom priced units with limited features because in the future I wind up moaning that I should have spent just a little bit more.  Penny wise and pound foolish.  Or as Car Talk said, "It's the stingy man who pays the most."

You should give some thought about what you will use to feed the system.  You can start with a Bluetooth link from a cell or laptop.  That is basically free.

If you have a big screen, or not very big screen, you owe it to yourself to hook up your rig to the screen.  You'll never go back to the dinky speakers in the screen.

Here's one on the cheap ($45!).  I've owned a couple of AVR's in this product range, and they do what you need.

If you can do $95, here's a better unit, 7.1 surround (it's basically the same unit I have running 7.1 / 4K TV as a monitor), in my office:   (remember that you can always haggle a bit on Craigslist)
