Better Without Audyssey?

I reset my Marantz late last night.

Too late to run the Audyssey Program.

Gee, I think my speakers sound better without this.

I have a mixture of soft & hard surfaces in the room

so it seems to be OK as far as I'm concerned.

Without the Audyssey, the highs and bass are much cleaner.

I also think the dynamics are better.

I'm using no tone controls at all.

These 5 speakers are Rocking Baby.

I always disable everything like that.  It's a useful tool for balancing speaker levels but I like my ears to determine what sounds best.

Since going active 3-way i've stopped using Audyssey. But I'm also only running stereo at this point and my subs are integrated as part of each full range speaker. I tried running Audyssey to further refine things after I spent a bunch of time with REW and my Yamaha processor, but Audyssey never could get off the ground during the speaker check phase, so I just abandoned it.

I don’t even know what Audyssey is. I use the pink noise generator in my receiver and an analog SPL meter. I love how it sounds.

It's a brand of room corrections software found included with certain brands of of receivers over the last 15 years or so. (Denon, Marantz, onkyo, etc)

Audyssey has not worked out for me

I don't let a computer algorithm determine how my system is supposed to sound.  I use my good old ears.  Especially when it tries to set things flat.

I've been saying this same thing for years but always get told "oh you're wrong you don't know what you're talking about"  audyssey sucks all the dynamics out of your speakers. It does guarantee mediocre to poor sound at every seat though lol

Exactly. Does Audessy know how old you are and how shot your hearing is? Does Audessy know how you like to hear certain types of music?

I appreciate the effort that goes into something like this but it's a benchmark.....not the icing on the cake.

Never have considered that. May get you close, but no cigar.

 

We may have to wait until AI catches up with our hearing.

Audessey did not work for me either.  Integra 7.1 was the receiver. I had a DBX Drive Rack which could analyze the room too and it worked better than Audessey.

I usually run 'Direct' anyway... for 5.1 music. HT is slightly different.
