B&C DE-120 Discontinued??

Searching around on the inter-webs looking for the best deal on drivers for the DPHL I noticed on the B&C website that the de-120 is listed under "product archives" with recommended alternative / replacement of the de-110.. I know there are similar drivers offered by B&C but there may be a limited time to pick the 120's up new, I see partsexpress still has them not sure for how long though. I already have 4 pairs but thinking about grabbing a couple more just in case they disappear:

This is the recommended replacement, the de-110 spec's look very close but use a different diaphragm material? Maybe better?

Here's a link to Partsexpress where they still list the de-120 for sale and on sale for $75 each:

Claude @ClaudeJ1 has tested both 110 and 120.  IIRC, they tested very closely.  Perhaps he can offer an opinion.

Dave @Dave A and Bob @BEC have experience with both the 110 and 120.  Perhaps they can shed light on the discontinuation of the B&C DE-120.

DaveA has lots of them if you buy his MAHLs. This is the second go round for this type of scare. The national rep says: As long as people keep buying them, they will keep making them. My curves show the DE-110 is not as smooth, but it's pretty picky, it's still a good driver, but I prefer the 120.

OK straight from the North American B&C distribution heads lips. These will not be discontinued UNTIL they stop selling them. If demand ends then production will and quite frankly I just don't see that happening unless they come up with a better driver just as small and the same or less price. I read that same legacy bit on their website and it was one of the things that drove me to make the clamp plates so just in case people would be future proofed. As it turns out there are no worries for a long time as far as I can tell. But if that ever does happen at least MAHL buyers are prepared with various bolt patterns there to use.

Here in Europe we have the same info: as long as there are buyers of the DE120, B&C will continue manufacturing. After that if there are no more customers for this model, production will cease.

Note that there are very good candidates for replacement from other manufacturers: Celestion (which is probably the supplier of tweeters from Khorn AK6 and La Scala AL5), Faital Pro and even from B&C ...

Tested the 2 Faitals on loan from DaveA.............they fell short of the DE-120................they favored the low end instead of being flat....IOW, they rolled off after 10Khz. as far a I recall, which in some applications they could be preferred by different ears. I listen and look and curves.

Hi,

Yes Claude 👍 I was thinking of HF104, it is famous and the curves are good, but I admit that I did not listen to it. And it is more expensive than DE120, so as long as DE120 is made it will be a very good candidate. My speech was to say that if DE120 disappears it will then be necessary to look for a new candidate, but this is not topical.

The DE-110 and DE-111 are likely replacements. I curved the DE-110 and mounted it in a friend's Cornwall. It sounds very good, so that would get my vote.

the DE 120 was discontinued since early 2020   ,but still  plentiful of remaining stocks  --

-the  DE-110 has a HT Polymer  diaphragm versus Mylar  on the DE-120 -------

the brochure of the DE 120- states the DE-110 is the current replacement - same exact weight on both units  ---

You don't want to use either one full tilt below about 3 Khz. with a 2nd order slope, however.
