I know we played Eruption at the SWAG.

Eddie was incredible.  I'm playing VH LPs tonight.

Yep, a lot of us are getting old, and it slips up fast on us.  The LP on the right in my post above, I've had for 40 years, and I remember well the first time I played it.

Went to their first concert tour in Philly, what a great show for the first album. Those first few albums and concerts are something I will always remember. Also am a huge fan of the Red Rocker and enjoyed them playing together. I was working floor security at the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis when Valarie B showed up and I escorted her to the mixing console and watched part of the show with her - she did not like Eddie and Sammy on the rigging playing together, it was swinging around considerably.

I did worry about Eddie as in later shows he was smoking and had a cigarette holder on the guitar neck. Always had a cigarette burning.

Eddie Van Halen??..Man I'm getting old.

On the upside, he was relatively young at 65.  Lung cancer, but from what?  Cig's, Pot, Jet Fuel Fumes, 2nd Hand Smoke?

Actually throat cancer, not lung cancer.  Cigarettes for one didn't help.  He also thought that holding metal guitar picks in his mouth for years contributed to it.

A good friend's uncle smoked no-filter Pal Mal's since WW-2. He came down with throat cancer. After they removed his larynx (with no help from the VA) and a lot of the muscles from his neck, he had to eat from a gastric tube straight through his torso to his stomach. He would get mad at it when it clogged motioning that he wanted to punch the feeding syringe.

Thought I read lung cancer on local media, i.e. instagram or twitter, cant remember. After reading your reply and searched the web and found a couple of consistent posts.... seems it started as cancer on the tongue (metal picks???) that spread to the throat/esophagus.

What kind of metal is used for a guitar pick?  I thought they were all plastic.

Brass and copper but Dr's attributed his cancer to smoking.  It's a terrible loss of an incredibly talented artist.

Couple days late, RIP EVH. Not a huge VH fan, but did really enjoy alot of their music. The dude could shred and if wasn't for him and Alex, we may not of had one of my favorite bands. Farewell to one of the greatest
