Still, University of Oxford neuroscientist Victoria Bajo notes there was no control group in the trial.

 

Why in the world not?

 

Would it have been so hard to randomly assign tinnitus sufferers to two groups, one with the shocks, and one with some kind of control, like a paddle in the mouth that vibrates, but does not shock?  Or an ANOVA (or other multivariate) design that had people randomly assigned to three groups, shocking, vibrating, or waiting list?
