Ouch! FORTE Speakers on EBAY

Genuinely a little curious if this is wishful thinking or a lack of product knowledge. Maybe if they were extremely low serial numbers and never taken out of the box you might get lucky and find one person might be willing to pay significantly higher as a collector piece.

Just seems to be a waste of time in that condition.

LOL!  just another delusional seller that thinks these are worth that much...  they arent even in that nice of condition.  he probably did some "research" & saw other wackos listing them for $1000-$1200+.

Its the barrett-jackson syndrome brung on by the new klipsch model prices.... like with cars, a guy sees a super rare or high end restoration mustang or any model car sell for a outrageous price at a high end auction & thinks his run of the mill mustang or backyard rebuild is worth that price.  & for klipsch, people see the new fortes, heresy, cornwall or lascala & K-horns sell for high prices & think there 20-25+ year old speakers are worth anywhere near that much.  i see countless sale ads for used 1980-90's klipsch speakers, mainly K-horns & lascalas, & the seller states " these speakers cost $12,000 to buy today so mine are worth $5-6-8k", but they have issues like water rings or chips/scratches & x-overs need to be rebuilt etc etc.  an analogy i like is thats like saying your 1989 Ford F-150 truck with 200k miles & rust & worn out engine is worth $10-15k because a new F150 costs $50k!  delusional!

Hmm... I sold my Forte II's for $400 several years back.... maybe I should have started at $2000?  Silly me!  What was I thinking?  Oh yeah, I was thinking I would sell them at what they are worth and hope they make the next owner happy!

...and when the ad says, "an audiophile's dream"  I don't know of any snooty audiophile that dreams of Forte's:).

does anybody really have a problem with this guy asking 2K for his speakers? Or a problem if he actually gets 2K for them? It is not very likely that he will get his asking price but it is worth his time to ask. Why not? This is sounding very socialistic or communistic, comrade Harris and comrade Biden would no doubt approve I am sure but hey is there really a problem just because the guy wants as much as he can get? Does this make him a bad comrade?

No, it's actually a little bit of comic relief.  I support a free market.  Anyone can ask what they want. If they get it, great, if not, they just look like an idiot!

That's why I always look at "Sold" auctions on eBay to see what the last several items actually sold for.  Sure, I can list my KLF-20's for $2000, but what's the point.... other than you can say to your significant other, "Gee honey, I have the speakers that you don't like listed for sale, but for some reason, nobody is buying them!"

sometimes the "idiot" gets the asking price. In most of those cases though the vendor actually makes an effort to present their offering to look it's best. This does not look to be one of those situations and your Halloween comment was spot on.

the "problem" i have with things like this, is that asking a ridiculous price is just taking advantage of or ripping off someone that may not know any better. im sure if you were new to the hobby & heard how great klipsch speakers were & saw the MSRP for new models & thought these fortes were a good deal,  you would not like to find you paid 2-3 times what these used fortes are worth & sell for on the average used market.

yes its a free market & he can ask what he wants but its kind of a jerk move to jack up the price to such a ridiculous level hoping someone bites.  theres a fool born every minute but takes a scammer to intentionally take advantage of them.

running a scam and taking advantage of a fool are not at all the same thing. I think it is fair to say we have all of us acted foolishly many times in our lives and we learn best when the consequence stings. Even simple people need to learn what things they are good to do on their own and when to ask for assistance. I agree with you that to mislead is not a kind or ethical thing to do but this is a buyer beware world that we live in. Intentionally misleading or lying can be difficult to prove or just not worth involving the law over but in some situations it may be the thing to do. Life can have some hard lessons for us and the sooner we learn them the better off we will be. The person you see as a scammer may simply be desperate for cash and have limited options. I doubt that but I just don't know.
