rplace
@Chris A Guessing you may have received an email as well. Thoughts? Quote Introducing the UMIK-2, miniDSP's second-generation omni-directional acoustic measurement microphone. The UMIK-2 has everything that made the first-generation UMIK-1 one of our best selling products, including a convenient plug-and-play USB connection and a unique calibration file for each microphone to ensure accuracy. The UMIK-2 is a substantial upgrade in performance and functionality. A larger 1/2-inch microphone capsule provides lower noise and lower distortion, which is preserved by the 32-bit ADC (analog-to-digital converter) built into the microphone shell. Furthermore, sample rates are selectable from 44.1 to 192 kHz for compatibility with the widest possible range of measurement and recording software. The UMIK-2 is of course fully compatible with REW (Room EQ Wizard) and Dirac Live (version 3 and later). Driverless operation with macOS, Linux, Android and iOS, and a supplied ASIO driver for Windows ensure simple integration into many other measurement and recording applications.
NBPK402
I am interested in seeing someone compare the 2 versions.

I don't know enough to speculate if it is "better" therefor better measurements therefor better sound.
babadono
Still hoping to be able to use and master the first one someday...but hey knock yourselves out
Chris A
Discussion here: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/umik-2-and-other-products-by-minidsp.16927/ The larger size of the UMIK-2 capsule isn't a plus as far as those guys are concerned. I don't see a compelling reason to go to a UMK-2 right now...but perhaps as others use it and post the differences vis-à-vis the UMIK-1, I could be influenced at a future date, but not currently. What's much more interesting to me--since I run a surround sound (5.1) array--is this from miniDSP and John Mulcahy (REW author/admin): https://www.avnirvana.com/threads/room-eq-wizard-pro-and-minidsps-new-umik-x-microphone-array-make-multi-channel-a-reality.7646/ Not currently having directional information about the room acoustics and the reflections, etc. has been a real problem--as I was explaining to someone here just recently. This set of microphones and multichannel REW acquisition application looks like it could be addressing that issue. I'll be watching that one to see if it has some promise, and if so, I might spring for the microphones and the new "Pro" version of REW that supports it. Chris A
As it turns out, the UMIK-X is not being used to gather directivity information, but rather make the taking of multiple REW measurements more "easy" rather than having to move the microphone around to four or even eight different locations that are but a few inches apart, in order to average the measurements. https://www.avnirvana.com/threads/room-eq-wizard-pro-and-minidsps-new-umik-x-microphone-array-make-multi-channel-measurements-a-reality.7646/ https://www.minidsp.com/images/documents/miniDSP UMIK-X User Manual.pdf https://www.minidsp.com/products/acoustic-measurement/umik-x-multichannel-mic https://www.minidsp.com/forum/umik-questions/17970-umik-x-practical-use https://www.avsforum.com/threads/minidsps-new-umik-2-and-umik-x-measurement-microphones.3170742/ This isn't something that I think is currently worth its increased cost and complexity.
