Here is a question.

If you're pretty healthy and get exposed to a virus, does your body form an imune respose, sort of like getting vacinated?

If so, it is good to beexposed.

I really feel this is so overblown. Last year, in the U.S. alone from the common flu from a report on CBS citing a CDC study,  "The report estimates that flu has caused at least 4.6 million flu illnesses, 39,000 hospitalizations and 2,100 deaths since the season began in September. " That is 4 months. You don't see panic in the streets over the flu yet it is much worse. YMMV!   https://detroit.cbslocal.com/2019/12/30/cdc-flu-deaths-rise-2100-nationwide-2019/

It’s becoming increasingly apparent from medical experts, infectious virus specialists etc. that indeed this Is worse than what is considered the “common flu”. I think early on that may have been what we Wanted to believe but seems the tide and spread of the virus has changed from what we wanted to what we have now. 😷

It is a bit OT.

Penguin or the like publishes this.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Journal_of_the_Plague_Year

There are 100s of caviates that it is actually drawn from DeFoe's uncle's eperiences. As  you might know, Defoe wrote extensively including Robinson Caruso. (sp).

Still it is chilling.  The city fathers were as intelligent as anyone these days.  Still they did not know what to do.

Interestingly, some people survived the plague by living on boats anchored in the Thames and bought shipped in food a la Peapod.

Well a friend was going to cook some fried rice for lunch today for us, she looked at the ingredients and decided to switch out the fresh garlic for granules we had here.

She asked me what I thought, I just said " You feel lucky punk", she through it in the garbage.

I have NEVER been able to fathom how garlic imported from China could possibly be cheaper than that grown domestically.

Maybe it is used to throw the dogs off the scent of the fentanyl buried under it?

As I said, YMMV! the "NEWS" media, both broadcast and print, try to out hype each other to get the advertising bucks. I have been to so many events in person and the reporting if there was any, was not even close to what happened and bore no resemblance to any actual events that transpired. DECADES ago, I switched off the news in all their forms. If something is going on, I will hear about it soon enough, then I do my own investigating. This is not the end of the world, this is as much of a political stunt before an election as the Swine flue and the Bird flue and the ...... name your epidemic just before an election. YMMV!

Here is an attempt. Yes similar, as the body has an immunity response, where antibodies attack the invader. Seems I recall there being something like 151(?) strains of the flu. And the result being that you would not repeat the specific strain again. I use Vitamin C in foods to help build an immune response for in general

health concerns. Also, natural probiotics should help like apple cider vinegar such as Bragg's brand quality for ingesting per

instructions.

Earlier, I saw another guest speaker on TV state that they will be collecting plasma from people who've had the virus and recovered.  The plasma contains antibodies, which can be used in other people who become infected.

@BigStewMan Hi! ya, I have been back a little, checking things out.. again! I don't say much  but I read a bit. Still love my Klipsch, have not bought anymore but have not sold any either :P It is nice to see some familiar names and read from them again!

I was gone for over a year and found myself posting again.

Left SoCal and living in the Pacific Northwest now and not really enjoying it, but that's a whole different discussion. Never realized how much LA/OC was in my system. Should have stayed, wished I would have, but taking care of my sick brother so not sure when/if I'll return.

Nice to see you back though. it is good to see familiar names and yours is one of them.

@dtel has seen his fair share of stupidity related to hurricanes in stories he has shared with me.

Mandatory evacuation orders and his neighbors said no we are gonna ride it out, we rode out [fill in name] and we will ride this one out..They were never seen or heard from again apparently.  DTEL always got his family out, always got his family back.

He said sometimes it was a false alarm. I asked him if that might influence his decision in future evac orders, he said "no, why take a chance."

We have seen people leave and before they got where they were going something changed and it was over. Once we went to Hope, the storm went in around W Louisiana curved around and went over Hope, but very mildly.

But when it really hits the fan you do not want to be in it, it is not worth it, we were gone and had 140 mph winds here a good part of the day. We were lucky we had no damage, not sure how with the damage in the neighborhood. The people who stayed said never again. We are 10 miles from the interstate, there were probably not 10 telephone poles left standing over that 10 miles, it was a little rough and were 60 miles N of New Orleans.

It does not flood here so all we have to worry about is wind, when we lived across lake Pontchartrain outside of New orleans, at or below sea level it was a different story, just leave.

If it's over a 1 we decide depending on how it looks, we have stayed with it a little worse. But if we feel uncomfortable we leave, we had a daughter in N Louisiana we have gone to her house. She moved down here so they would go where we go, we have gone to the Smokies before for a storm.

It's better to leave and come back later if your not sure, you never know what your coming back to but at least everyone is fine.

Regardless of how the impact of the infection they may have affects others ?

If you're infected you should do everything in your power not to infect others.  If not you still need to live your life.  Most people still have a job.  You still get hungry.

Looking for that Exponential uptick.  The social distancing and the lifestyle changes people are making may keep the curve trending along Power-Law extrapolation.  It's optimistic outlook.

I am reminded of the "Y2K Bug". Tremendous hype and panic, and then 1999 turned into 2000 and ... nothing happened. "It was all a hoax," everybody said. Except it wasn't. The fact that nothing happened meant that a potentially very serious situation was averted by the dedicated efforts of a lot of hard-working people.

Handling of an outbreak like this is much the same. Do nothing, tragedy results, and those who are left look for who is to blame. Do everything right, all is well, and everybody cries "hoax".

Of the two, I'd prefer the latter.

This is so very true... Hundreds, if not thousands, of hours were spent in remediation and fixing code and hardware. It really could have been a disaster.

What is mentioned, and needs to be done is flattening the curve of rate of infections. If it is too steep, there won't be enough hospital beds, respirators, etc., to support those who are sick. Spread that out over time and it can be dealt with.

Alberta has a few cases, no deaths yet unless recent. I’m 65 and have asthma, I’m on self- lockdown. I need to go out one more time, then I’m going to stay in for a couple of weeks. Companies are talking about work from home. Hard to do for all the oil and gas operations! This is going to be interesting.

How does the weather effect your asthma, thanks...
