What a perfect example of the systemic problems with covid19. The people who know the least about medicine are the ones deciding what is right or wrong about how to manage and discuss the issues surrounding this disease. It is sad everywhere it happens.

What doctors wish patients knew about new coronavirus variants

New variants of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, are circulating in the U.S. and have raised international alarms as they continue to spread in other countries around the world. The emergence and rapid spread of at least three coronavirus variants has intensified the push to better understand how the novel coronavirus mutates and what this means for vaccine efficacy.

Mexico targets remote elderly with new shots of the Atrazeneca vaccine as they nearly run out of the Pfizer vaccine

Mexico received a shipment of 870,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses from a plant in India Sunday and laid out plans to vaccinate elderly people in the country’s poorest, most remote areas first.

Mexico has so far used Pfizer shots to vaccinate frontline health workers, but has nearly run out of those. So the government will start applying its first doses of the AstraZeneca shot, which it purchased at $4 each.

3 Unexplained Covid-19 cases prompt first lockdown in New Zealand since August

New Zealand’s largest city of Auckland will go into a three-day lockdown beginning just before midnight Sunday following the discovery of 3 unexplained coronavirus cases in the community.
The lockdown is the first in New Zealand in six months and represents a significant setback in the nation’s largely successful efforts to control the virus. It will also force a delay in the America’s Cup sailing regatta.

New Zealand Records 1st Suspected COVID-19 Community Case Since November

New Zealand has kept its community spread of the coronavirus low by keeping tight border controls, but on Sunday the country of 5 million reported its first suspected community case since November. And officials say it might involve a more transmissible variant of the virus.

A 56-year-old woman, who had traveled to Spain and the Netherlands for work late last year, has tested positive for the coronavirus after being in managed isolation for the required 14 days upon her return to New Zealand, the country's Ministry of Health said.

Is it time to delay second doses of coronavirus vaccines?

Two letters to major medical journals this week provide fuel for the argument that in these times of scarce coronavirus vaccine, people can skip their second doses, immediately doubling the supply for others.

In one, researchers at Israel's largest hospital watched what happened when more than 7,000 staff there got vaccinated. In between their first and second doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, rates of infected plummeted. By the second to fourth week after the first shot, rates of symptomatic infection were down by 85%.

'This is our generation’s D-Day': As US nears 500,000 COVID-19 deaths, weary health care workers fight on

“There’s definitely some tangible fatigue on the health care workers’ side, being sick of COVID and sick of people disregarding public health guidance, getting sick and expecting us to defer another vacation or put off something else,” said Eric Cioe-Peña, an emergency room physician running a COVID-19 field hospital in Staten Island, New York. “I’ve been telling people who thank me for this, ‘Just tell yourself and everyone you know to wear a mask when you’re out in public places. Don’t clap, don’t give me baked goods. I don’t need any of that. I need you to wear a mask and not get COVID.’”

What it is a perfect example of is individuals who are aware of what a fine line this thread has been since March, continue to want to discuss China and/or the WHO despite being told repeatedly we can't go there because of where it ends up. This isn't a thread about "the issues surrounding the disease" because we have learned (now on our 4th attempt) that the issues are inextricably intertwined with politics. We also know that people here are perfectly capable on their own in researching these issues if they wish and don't need anyone to do it for them.

So on this current 4th and final attempt we have sought to limit it to topics about availability of the vaccine, taking it or not, science and medical news re: the virus (i.e., issues that are not remotely political).

So that leaves 3 alternatives: Delete the thread because people can't help themselves; or (as has been preciously been suggested) for those who are just dying to talk about China and the WHO start a new thread on that issue and see how long it goes before it disintegrates; or ban people from this thread who keep wanting to go where they have been asked repeatedly not to go.

Sometimes the headwaters provide hydration for crops and growth, other times it causes floods. Stopping the flow at the headwaters kills everything downstream and allows for nothing. You’re stopping journalism from sources like The Wall Street Journal and accurate reporting on covid19 issues you do not grasp. You are not moderating. You are censoring and you are doing it blindly. It may be simpler for you personally but at the cost of engaging/informing others. This is why the forums have become so anemic. So called moderation has bled them to pale ABC123 discourse and jokes.

This is an important topic. Would have liked to see more back and forth discussion but, posters have dwindled. Guess we maybe collectively and individually grown somewhat jaded on this topic, even weary.

Alot of the controversy over politics has subsided.

Going forward, if not here, thinking that some have their own discussion about the continuing import of this pandemic.

On the topic of blanket deletions of posts, or the removal of entire threads, that has certainly taken a toll on those who may want to contribute. Contributions down so far this year aside from copy of links. Stay well y'all...

I agree but it has been a major, ongoing event that we are still living under.

We are still under a facemask and social distance ordinance while our hospitals are at capacity in our county.

Again, what you fail to grasp whats going on. You quote the WSJ on the China investigation, and then someone posts a political quote from that article, and then someone else posts from the NYT or WP, on that issue,  with their associated political reporting. What difference does it make what the source is if if serves to consistently lead to political discourse?

You also fail to grasp that the people in this Forum are perfectly able to gather information from reliable sources on the issues related to Covid-19. They have shown that over and over again. They just don't believe they have a monopoly on knowledge and information  like others.

It is indeed simpler, and it's also fair. Those who believe they have a grasp on what's really going on don't get to determine that their point of view somehow is above the rules.

You were given multiple opportunities to post in a seperate thread about it to see if it were possible to keep it on the rails, but you would rather debate the Fourum rules - my take is the issue isn't that important to you, but getting your worldview out there is.

Time will tell.
