forte II as a center with 1975 LS mains?

Recommended Posts

Just talking out loud right now. I currently use klf-30s + klf-c7 for HT front duty. But when I move I'll be able to use stock (at least to start) 1975 LS for two channel.

Now I was thinking to cut down on the clutter of five speakers up front (14ft) if we used a forte II I have for a center. Has anyone done this and if so how well did they play together? This would make the move easier if we left the klf's to bring down at a later date.

An original Forte' would be a better choice since the II uses a Tractix midhorn but it certainly would be better than a reference series speaker or a KLF-C7.

you won't know what a Forte 2 sounds  with a pair of LS  until you try it ,  1 thing for sure is that the bass from the Forte 2 will compensate for the lack of bass in both LS  which may not be a bad idea -

Another thing for sure is the passive bass on the Forte will in no way keep up with the crisp, tight bass from the LS. Nor will it provide near the same mid range experience as that of the LS mid horn. Both models may say Klipsch and indeed provide a similar “house” sound but in reality couldn’t be more different—

May give it a try, wouldn't cost me anything. But most likely won't be a keeper.

For HT I don't see a problem. The center carries 90% of a movie.

The problem lies in the fact that the horn and driver in a LaScala are in a completely different league than any forte will ever be.  Why give that up?  Run a phantom center.

Never cared for a phantom center once I got a 5th speaker. I did run LS mains and a forte center for a bit until Belles showed up.
