mike_littlerock
I have Klipsch bookshelf speakers at the house, was sold on the idea of Bose "back in the day" but love the improvement since changing to Klipsch for center channel and bookshelves. For the big question, whats next? what are good resources to learn the difference in Klipsch speakers so i have an educated idea about what to buy. I know of the Heresy, LaScalla and Klipschorn but really clueless in terms of quality, price etc. my end goal is to upgrade from the bookshelves to something nice for music but that can also work well for home theater use. I feel i should make apologies for being such a noob. lol.. I am a technical person (just networking, IT stuff, IoT etc) so i like learning about the specs etc but still early in this journey. thanks in Advance! Islander
Welcome to the Forum! The speakers you mentioned are from the Heritage Series, i.e. the speakers designed by Paul Klipsch himself. It’s a family of fine speakers, speakers that are so well built that your children may inherit them from you one day. However, those speakers have a lot of clever engineering in them, and most of them are large, meaning more material is required to construct them. This makes them expensive, especially if you want to do a full surround system for home theatre use. However, I have no idea what sort of budget you have in mind. If you’re planning on buying new, the Forte III could make a good choice, since the price of the 5 speakers required for a basic surround system would be quite a bit less than it would cost for 5 La Scalas or 5 Klipschorns. That’s just one possibility. Let us know how much you’d like to spend, and then resign yourself to spending somewhat more, because you’ll need something to power those speakers. It’s hard to go wrong with the Klipsch Heritage speakers. They sound great, look great, and can last you a lifetime.
mike_littlerock
Thanks! I think to get my feet wet perhaps 2k is good. That was a detail I should have added but always worried about newbie posts lol. Some forums tear people apart. A few other notes that may help my case. I’m comfortable with electronics (replacing parts, wiring soldering etc). Also, I have a well equipped wood shop and metal shop. Wood shop has fairly precise tools including 3 Cnc routers. I was thinking of getting a nicer used set that perhaps needs to be loved. My only worry about “that auction site” speakers would be determining if real or not. jimjimbo
Highly recommend that you also look at physical specs of the speakers to see if they will fit in your space, as well as evaluating your space for it's acoustics.
rockhound
@mike_littlerock welcome to the rabbit hole! I also live in Arkansas (Bentonville) there are a few others on here as well. What do you currently own? I have had the vast majority of Klipsch consumer and professional series speakers. I have not had the RP line yet but I hear good things about the 8000 series and for 1k you might look at those. You have found the best resource (this forum) some really knowledgeable fanatics on here.

Frank1938
Just a suggestion. Use that money to buy two SVS 12" subs and the RP404C center speaker. The subs can carry a lot of the weight. Rear speakers might also fit into your budget. Nothing wrong with bookshelf speakers.
