Modern Banana Plugs

I'm an old dude, came back to stereo recently. Bought a pair of Heresy speakers, I am restoring the cabinets. The small screw terminals are too small for 16 gauge wire and the screw driver slots in the screws are so shallow that you can't get a good grip.  I'd like to convert to banana plugs. All the premium banana jacks and plugs are metal. This concerns me, something could fall across the two plugs and short the amp. Plastic seems safer but all the cables with plastic plugs seem cheap. Am I over thinking this?

Have you considered  Neutrik Speakon connectors?  If not familiar with them, search the Klipsch forums for “Speakon.”  A Google search of Speakon will also be educational.

 

After a falling dumbbell snapped the binding posts on a subwoofer, I vowed to never use anything other than Speakon connectors.  I’ve never looked back.

Alternative WBT from Germany

 

WBT copper pole terminal WBT-0703 Cu | connection option for speaker cable with banana plug or 6mm / 8mm spade connector. The signal conductor WBT-0703 is limited to a conceivably small metal mass of pure copper.

These will allow you to use banana plugs and heavy gauge speaker wire on older Klipsch speakers. I use them on my Heresy, Cornwall,  and Klipschorns. Fit perfectly.

I use them as well, but use a little blue thread lock to keep them secure where the plug fits in.

Those banana/spade adapters are great. I use them on my old Heresys without issue.

 I ordered some of these and once in the barrier strip they are too close together to install banana plugs. Would you happen to have a photo of yours? Maybe I'm not thinking this through.

I use these on my Khorns, belles, and have used them on heresies. You may need to angle them, or maybe invert one of them?
