La Scala Center Is Coming..Woo..Hoo!!!

JM,

I'm going to put it upside down and put the TV on top of it.

I may get into customizing it later. The TV may be a little high up, probably about a foot and bit higher than it is now.

Most likely when I get the time, I will separate the tweet and squaker section, and create 2 separate bins. Put the TV on top of the bass bin and the tweet and squaker bin on the floor in front of it angled upwards like I have the RC-7 now.

I just got a La Scala for use as a center channel, picked it up for $300. I set my 43" Proj TV on top of it, what a job that was. But boy what a difference, it has the AA crossover just like my Belle's and is only 2 years older 1978 vs. 1980 nice tonal match. I will refinish it to match in the Spring, since it is Birch. I love it, now I have to sell my KV-4. I am certain you will enjoy! 1.gif

You have all the luck NOZ !!!

I can't seem to find a single and the pairs that have been in the paper latly are over priced or thrashed.

Went and looked at a pair of belles for $3500.00 canadian last week and they were beat to death by the guys small kids. There should be some sort of law against that !!!!

Hi Dale,

I got very lucky, a friend of mine here in Toronto found a pair in Sault Ste Marie, he was also looking for a single one for center. They were on ebay, and we got them for $820 U.S.

For the Toronto area we feel we got a great deal. They have matching drivers for both of us.

I just hope they are not beat to rat-$hit. I don't think they are, they look pretty good in the picture.

Noz,

Good find. That system is going to be great.

I have one question.

You said you are going to put the Lascala upside down and put the TV on top.

Won't this cause your TV picture to go banana's? Your TV is going to be on top of the woofer. This magnet causes all the problems in interference, I think.

Please post after you get it set up. I have one pair of Lascala's for 2 channel and I hope in the next year to replace them with a pair of khorns. I will then move the Lascala's into my HT room.

What is your reason for putting the LaScala upside down? We who use LaScalas upside down have them up in the air above Tvs, for surrounds, or front effect speakers. We do this to keep the tweeters and midrange more at ones ear level while seated. Are you going to be laying on the floor listening to them?

With the bass horn off the floor the LaScala drops fast below 80 Hz. My upside down center channel LaScala dies at 80Hz. The bass horn is about 18" from the ceiling. My Rear surround LaScalas die at 60Hz. The bass horn on them is about 3" from the ceiling. I mention this becauce the ceiling acts like the floor when you have a speaker upside down.

If it is going under the TV, use it up right. The bass will be much better and so will the tweeter.

Q-Man,

I know, but I have to have it clear my screen. That's why I am most likely going to make the two separate bins out of it. My screen comes down to about one foot from the floor. I thought about ceiling mounting the skwaker and tweeter section, buy that won't work because I would have to angle it downwards too much and would interfear with the projection line.

Thats why my best bet is to make the two bins. The bass bin gets the TV ontop of it and the sqwaker and tweeter bin goes on the floor in front of the bass bin and gets angled upwards to the listening position.

You will probably need to sheild that LaScala, doubt it was already buck magnet'd 1.gif

I wonder, could you first try it with the LaScala BEHIND the screen? We are setting up our HT with an RF-7 behind the screen. I have heard an RF-7 behind a screen before and it sounded just terrific. The LaScala is even more powerful so I don't see the screen being of TOO much trouble. Of course, this WAS a permeable screen...
