are the results the same on both drivers   ?

Late to this..... so the copper conductor has come out of the kapton(or similar) insulator in the lead(s) to the voice coil? That ain't right. Sure its not shorting to something when assembled?
Correct and something I consider, even realized the metal eye connection for the terminal was touching the metal body of the driver housing. I added some electrical tape as a barrier, it made no difference.

Luckily adding the tape hasn't had any affects to the sound. Now that ive created a whole new filter, jamming tunes again. Just need to go back and eq the peaks a bit.
