StianT
Title, I currently use the rp160m as fronts, but I got a old pair of rf-62mk1 collecting dust, would they be a better front-stage than these smaller RP160ms? Thanks for any input. Edited February 27, 2021 by StianT
Ceptorman
Welcome. Probably yes. Those RP160s are great speakers, but bookshelf speakers have a hard time keeping up with towers, especially if you like it loud. Your RF62 are pretty good speakers also. I would definitely give it a try, you have nothing to lose. Is this for home theater or 2 channel music? Those four speakers would work well in a multi channel setup. Let us know your findings.
StianT
Its a 7.1.2 system, with 4x in-wall KEF160 speakers and 2x in-ceiling.

They are very capable speakers for 2 channel and HT. Bill
Ceptorman
That sounds nice. Are your RP160s on stands? Usually a bookshelf on stands take up the same space as a tower. You might get a larger sound stage with the towers. If it's easy to switch, I would try it. Or like Bill said, you have a great start to another system, because both of those speakers are worth using.
StianT
They're currently wall-mounted, but I'm not sure if I like how it looks.. Tho that might change once I get the stand for my center and the tv + AVR mounted. https://imgur.com/a/BrA4Vo4
Ceptorman
Nice, another good thing about tower speakers are they're easier to place, and move around for optimal placement.
StianT
Thats very true, though what about matching timbre? as my center is the rp-440c
Ceptorman
The 160s would match better timbre wise. You can easily demo both with your setup, I think the 62s would fit directly under the 160s. Try it. Is the sub out of the picture? Is this only for HT, any 2 channel?
StianT
The sub is a oldschool xtz 12.16 w99, and the setup is strictly for HT (movies and tv shows)
Ceptorman
I would definitely try the 62s, even being off a little timbre wise, it could still sound better. A center speaker is the most important, then probably the sub, then mains. I think those 160s are too high anyway, they should be somewhat in line with the center. They are pretty close but maybe centered on the space between the horns and the woofers on the RP-160Ms would be a bit better. Bill
StianT
Will try the 62's as soon as I'm done building the media-cabinet for the AVR and blurays. Yeah, they're abit high but (even tho its not visible in the photo) they're angled down abit.
Ceptorman
That's what is good about towers, easily moved. You might try placing the 160s on ladders or something moveable, just moving a speaker a few inches can make an improvement. Play with positioning of all your speakers. Did you use them much?

I have never heard the RP-160Ms. In true stereo, I think the RF-62 would have the edge due to them having a wider frequency response. Add a well integrated subwoofer/s to the RP-160Ms and you would have a different ball game. Bill
