I use lemon oil on the oil finish speakers I have. Then once every 20 years(?) I'll break down and apply Watco in natural. Wipe off excess before it can gel and splotch. On lacquer i use Tung oil and wipe off the excess almost immediately. If you let that sit you'll have a mess on your hands.

I use very light application of Johnson's paste wax on my laquered speakers...and buff it to a high gloss by hand. works great!    If old oiled finish, then wipe them down with wood soap first, to clean any surface grunge from them, wait until next day and  then use whatever the original oil finish was...if not sure...use Watco's rejuvenating oil.
