Crossover attenuation - Forte II OEM

Recommended Posts

Newbie questions:

1. Is it possible to increase the attenuation for the tweeter by changing, adjusting, anything on the crossover?  I would like more output on the tweeter side.

2. Can the crossover be changed from 7k to 6k or 5k?

Thank you.

Titanium tweeter diaphragms will give you a nice and inexpensive boost, as well as higher highs.

LMAHL lenses on the driver of your choice will produce even better results.

Here is a really useful schematic comparison, but I am not knowledgeable enough to know what you could change.

It seems all of the newer Klipsch speakers are handing off to the tweeter at lower frequencies.

The La Scala II and Hersey IV are 4.5kHz, 5k on the Cornwall IV, and 5.2kHz on the Forte IV.

Hadn’t consciously recognized that yet.

The Cornwall IV and Heresy IV let the woofer run a bit higher too now at 700 and 850Hz vs the earlier 600 and 700Hz respectively.

That is certainly one effective way to tame a horn.

Deang, I thought the current midrange driver was an alnico Atlas again, like the K55V used to be. Only that Atlas now specifies a maximum of 4500 Hz for some reason. The modern tweeters are indeed different from the classic K77 and they run easily lower than before.

Sorry, missed the big Heritage reference. Yes, they still use the Atlas PD5-VH.

The new Heresy, Forte and Cornwall use something different, maybe the Celestion CDX1-1742?

Steeper slopes on the filters allow for lower crossover points. You get more protection for the tweeter, a bit more power handling, with lower distortion.
