Who needs such promises?

I hope I'm in the right place in this forum section if it's also about a scurrility.

I just received this wonderful advertisement via email from an Audiogon link.

https://www.highfidelitycables.com/Nanoparticle/NPS1260.php?utm_campaign=draudio_20210604&utm_content=draudio_20210604_message_a&utm_medium=email&utm_source=zaius&zm64_id=cmVoYmVpbi5oZWluekBuZXRjb2xvZ25lLmRl

This is the revolution in our world of sound that many have been waiting for since decades. Until now I thought Audiogon was a reputable source.
I am less interested in the result and effect that this miracle product promises. Rather, I wonder who is buying it, if any. Below after the text you can see the price. $599 for 3ml. In the pdf that you can click on, there is unfortunately nothing about the function of the miracle drug, but a lot of pages about the possibilities of getting very sick from it.

Seriously, such miracle cures have a long tradition. There are also magnetic coils for cars that halve fuel consumption, or magic stones that prevents us from sick. What I want to say is that there is no stopping this kind of scam. Is it a funny part of our civilization?

How desperate must someone be, mentally ill, ignorant, dissatisfied with their hifi system, or otherwise in a disposition to want to be seduced and deceived. I know, maybe it is superfluous to post about such a thing here in the forum, but just the fact that such an offer exists amazed me. Is it insolence, unscrupulousness, contempt, or what is it to put such an offer into the world? After all, it is phenomenon to try it as a seller. I am inspired also to try to write such a stupid text. Because writing the text is the only energy invested in this product.

The PDF you point to has nothing to do with the function of the product, but rather, it is the "Material Safety Data Sheet" for the components used in the product.

I say, to each his own, & if you can hear a difference, then good luck to you & money well spent. If you purchase it & hear no difference, then "buyer beware".

There are thousands of products out there that someone will say are "bull-...."  & there will always be someone who will buy them.

Speaker cables, interconnect cables, speaker toppers, supports that hold the speaker cables off the floor, capacitors, inductors....the list goes on & on. I have products in my system that some respected people say couldn't possibly make any difference to the sound, yet my experience over a 50 year span says otherwise. Who are we to say whether a product is valid or not for someone else.

Good luck with your crusade.

I say the same thing about exotic speaker cables and interconnects.

Before you comment, let me put on my flame retardant suit...

I accept the free choice that everyone has. I find it interesting and invigorating for our audio hobby, what there are for manifold attempts and solutions and no one should be denied something.
I don't want to make a crusade. But...$600 for a few drops of a magic water is, in my understanding, more likely to seduce mentally weak people.
With all the freedom of experimentation, there is, on the other hand, common sense and proportionality. At least in the way that everyone individually considers right.

Although it smells like snake oil, it may be legit in some circumstances.

I remember a video about a high end cable, of which each copper fibre was shielded by a special coating. In order to achieve good contact, it is important to remove that coating at the cable ends. And for that, there is a special product provided. The instructional video I saw, wat pretty down to earth, no esotheric marketing babble.

If you think six hundred dollars for a pair of cables is expensive, you should get out more.

No, that was $599 for a tiny 3 ml. bottle of magic magnet solution, to treat cables and connections.  It looks like a small nail polish bottle, with a probably similar brush on the underside of the cap.

That’s real BS Alert material there.  The text in the ad contains the usual gobbledygook and bad writing.  For $19.99, or even $29.99, he might sell all the magic solution he has time to mix up, but for $599 I don’t see him getting many takers.

I think we have entered the region of fear buying. What if that stuff really does help? I might miss out!! Any of us with an older sibling has been teased when we were four or five - "There is an elephant in the front yard!" We knew big brother was lying but we were afraid not to look, what if we missed out? I was actually the oldest and perpetrated these things on my younger brother.  One time my sister and I told him that there were "100 dancing cowboys" in a highway rest stop shelter. Thankfully I developed a conscience and have never sold $600 magic water to anyone.

I like the name they have given this product

Three Dimensionality Enhancer!  ( who comes up with these names ? )

May I put my vote in as a sceptic of this product

Perhaps the same thing that had you perusing in the first place?

If you know what you're looking/shopping for, then you probably don't explore the fringes? So perhaps there's some unknown need not being met that is fueling a mind open to new discovery? And writing about it is perhaps a means to subdue this anxious curiosity?

Haha, the deep psychoanalyst has revealed his interpretation completely without fee:)
So, I did not search, but it was the usual Audiogon newsletter, so advertising. Then I stumbled, because such a magic water was advertised on Audiogon. Of course I was curious enough to read the whole text and how it is formulated, what words are used for seduction.
So much for my rationalized justification.
In reality it was like this:
Because you are absolutely right about one thing. Writing and reporting about it here was a very healing self-treatment for me. I couldn't sleep for two nights before writing about it, I had beads of sweat on my forehead and I heard strange voices after reading about the magic water. Actually, the sweet lure of seduction had done two things at once. On the one hand, an irresistible attraction to the point of self-sacrifice, and on the other hand, the great unconscious fear of this seduction. Now that I am writing about it again, I feel even better.😱

Haha 😃

I think the psychoanalysis was perhaps more internally focused as I found myself reading the ad several times trying to wrap my head around what might have the slightest bit of merit in the claims...

I've recently been introduced to the concept of PIM (Passive Intermodulation Distortion) which occasionally turns out to be quite problematic in cell phones:

https://www.anritsu.com/en-us/test-measurement/technologies/pim

Figure 2

The basic idea is that you can get Intermodulation Distortions from the non-linearity created at the mechanical junction between two conductors. The fundamental mechanism isn't well understood, but there are plenty of empirical solutions for it.

Figure 12

Perhaps we should try this magical elixir at work to see if our PIM goes away? 🙃

In other words....perhaps there is some merit.....and we wouldn't want others to think $599 was too cheap for the near perfection we enjoy in our homes...
