I am seeing a pair of RF-3 listed for $350. The seller claims they are in very good condition with no dents/creases on the woofers. He is also 2 hours away from me...

I might jump on them if they are still available this weekend, as that is the soonest i could make the drive. I'm still debating if I want to be more patient and wait for a pair of RF-5s to come up, so all of my surround speakers match. But the RF-5s seem pretty rare and the asking price is generally pretty high

I have used RF-3s as side surrounds and liked them very much. I switched them out for RB-75s which we no longer use in our bedroom and feel it was close to a lateral move in that location (as mains with an RC-7 the RB-75s are definitely the ticket).

And really for just casual looki ng and listening, likely not tell difference between the 2 models.

And actually think the 3s a good fit as surrounds.

I agree although I am always on the lookout for a pair of RF-5s in my neck of the woods because I think it would be cool to have those as surrounds in our HT listed below. ;)

I really like the RF-5's kind of regret selling mine sometimes they really are amazing speakers especially for their size I thought they were as good / on the same level as forte II's.

Cool insight on the value...I was a bit uncertain given these speakers are well aged at this point. I don't think this particular guy is coming down. I offered him $600, and his starting price was actually $800, and has since offered $700. I'll honor the $600 if he wants to do a deal, since I already offered it...but yes definitely not going any higher. I'm a patient buyer and can wait

Everything has become so much more expensive this last year. I am selling (local) a pair of RF-82iis in good shape. Based upon this forum I went with $475 for them. I had an offer of $400, told the guy $450 was my bottom line and did not hear back from him. I looked on eBay and everything was north of $575. I don't have experience w/ the RF-5s  (love my RF-7's) but $600 might be the best you can do in this market. Inflation has just been out of control.

Maybe OP got the 3s...

Hi all - just reporting back that I did in fact pick up the RF-3's over break to complete the 7.2 system. I did not mean to ghost you guys...I am just new to the forums and need to set up notifications I guess for replies.

I wish I could have found a pair of RF-5s to perfectly match, but these RF-3s were in good shape and at a reasonable price. They did not come with feet however, so now I do have to figure out where to find some feet, which seem to be long out of production from what I can tell online.

So I'm using RF-7s upfront, RF-5 for surround (5.1 content) and RF-3's in the rear (for 7.1 content). I will say only about 10% of my movie collection is 7.1, so while another pair of RF-5s would have been nice, it's really not a big deal at all. After having spent about 1.5 weeks with the RF-3s, I would say they blend with the overall system pretty well.

I went from a Quintet IV 5.1 system to the current RF-7/5/3 lineup w/ 2x R-115sw...so just overall the sound improvement is huge. I almost have too much sound now and I believe the next step will need to be acoustical treatments, rather than more amps or speakers. I am also planning to build wood bases for the RF-5s and RF-3s, so that all tweeters are at the same height, with the RF-7s being the largest and sitting on the floor.

Hi all - I am getting this system dialed in... playing around with speaker placement and settings. I definitely need acoustic treatments in the room, but there is nothing i can do about it right now.

For those of you who have the RF-7s and matching RC-7, do you have any center gain set to the RC-7 in your processor? I have been playing around with +1-3.5 decibels. +2.5-3.0 seems to be best so far, but different sources seem to yield different results in my mind. The Pioneer Elite MCAAC set it to +1.0 I think, but that didn't seem like enough.

Just curious what others are doing.

Thanks!

There are so many people in the forums saying how great the RF-5s are...

I can't buy anymore speakers right now, but I'm actually tempted to look for another set of RF-3's (so my surround and rear surrounds would match perfectly in the 7.2 setup) and use the RF-5s that i have in a stereo setup in anther room.

Just an idea of the future and gives me a reason to keep checking used speakers online, which is always fun haha
