nmorris43
I have a question...... I am buying an amp that takes balanced XLR inputs. Is there anything different i need to do other than a different cable from my pre-outs to supply this amp with signal?
jimjimbo
If your preamp has balanced outputs, there is nothing different you need to do.
Edgar
If you really want to be obsessive about it: https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/191547-odd-noise-in-system/&do=findComment&comment=2494961 Otherwise just ground the "-" amp input. nmorris43
Just now, jimjimbo said: If your preamp has balanced outputs, there is nothing different you need to do. How do you determine if the pre-amp is balanced or not?

If the outputs have RCA connectors, it is unbalanced.
nmorris43
All I have is RCA pre-outs on my pre -amp.
Edgar
Monoprice.com, search for "RCA XLR".
babadono
There is a correct way to interface an unbalanced (RCA) output to an balanced (XLR) input. See Edgar's link in post above. And contrary to his opinion I don't think it it obsessive....it is just the correct way to do it. Monoprice's RCA to XLR cables are wired the correct way. https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=4777&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2vOC6oPa9AIVTD6tBh2OcQAmEAQYASABEgKQfvD_BwE your pre amp will NOT automatically have the duplicate source impedance as shown in the link but the Monoprice Cables will work. You will just have no common mode rejection without the duplicate impedance.

parlophone1
I got these Monoprice cable to connect my balanced Hypex monoblocks with RCA connections in a preamp. It works fine. If you care about the proper way of wiring from balanced to theRCA, here is some read about it. https://www.hypex.nl/img/upload/doc/an_wp/AN_Legacy_pin_1_problems.pdf
