Everything is plugged in to a modern grounded outlet though most throughout this old Sears catalog house look just like the one in the earlier picture.

When I got my first DOS computer (a 386-20) back in 1989, I was living in my first house, a small bungalow built in 1950. There were no grounded outlets at all. The basement even had knob-and-post wiring. I had to install a groundable outlet and run a ground wire down to a suitable ground in the basement.
