psg
I have never really used receiver room EQ but wasn't equipped with a receiver that had a good version. I hear great things about Dirac. I need to update a very old HK receiver because I no longer get real surround formats while streaming Netflix since it doesn't support DD+. I'd like pre-outs for front mains to keep using my very old amplifier, but they only seem to be available on high end receivers; the exception looks to be the Yamaha RX-V6a (currently C$50 off at C$850). (I had a thread going last summer but never got around to buying anything.) I need 7.1, would like two HDMI outputs to stop using a splitter to the projector (although it works), and would like pre-outs for the front mains. Dirac Live is now available on the Onkyo TX-NR7100 (C$1350) and Pionner Elite VSX-LX305 (C$1550). These don't have pre-outs. I would have to move up to the Onkyo TX-RZ50 (C$2000) or the Pionnier Elite VSX-LX505 (C$1800) to ironically get more power so that I can skip using it and use my power amp. Is Dirac Live worth it? Is the jump from the C$850 Yamaha RX-V6a (which gets me pre-outs) to the C$1350 Elite 305 (Dirac but no pre-outs) worth it? Thanks, Peter
xo705cf
In a word yes!!! Nad t758 v3 has pre outs…
psg
Ok, but it's even more expensive at C$2100 unless I find a used one, being that it's a few years old.

OO1
@psg there are FREE alternatives to DIRAC ,,,,,,,Room EQ Wizard,,,,,,,,REW https://www.minidsp.com/applications/digital-room-correction/dirac-live-vs-rew
psg
Interesting. I've been using a miniDSP forever with REW to EQ my sub. I'll have to look into that, but you'd have to chain something between an AVR and external amplifiers, right?
OO1
correct , the miniDSP will do -
psg
Leaning towards the Onkyo TX-NR7100 for Dirac. Getting ready to let go of external amplification, although I really liked having output meters. They reassured me when I was pushing the system that I wasn't pushing it too far. The Dude
If your not hung up on Diraclive, Anthem has their own Room correction called ARC. Not sure how good it is, but for the price, it may be what you are looking for. https://www.anthemav.com/products-current/type=av-receiver/model=mrx-540/page=overview https://www.avsforum.com/threads/dedicated-arc-genesis-thread.3068892/

psg
"I need to update a very old HK receiver because I no longer get real surround formats while streaming Netflix since it doesn't support DD+. " This was how this started. I just found out that a C$50 "Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K" will transcode DD+ to plain old DD. I may not "need" a new receiver after all. I'm not sure how I feel about that! Haha!
psg
I just plugged in an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K to get DD+ transcoding it it was a wonderful sight to see the channel inputs light up on my AVR on Netflix. It even displays Dolby Digital Plus on the receiver, which is weird. Sounds amazing! This has taken much of the reason to upgrade the receiver out from under me. Ah well. xo705cf
Still not Dirac though?

At least I got the bug back after a decade! 😉
