rolfie_boy
Hi everyone! Heresy IV user here. Now that Heresy IV is out for almost 2 years, does anyone here have tried mods or tweaks that found/proven to improve the sound/performance of the speakers? Have tried searching the net on this specific topic to no avail. Cheers! -Rolf

If you are not happy with those the way they came from Klipsch then you bought speakers that were to small for what you really wanted. JohnA
+2 dB at 50 Hz with a low Q tone control. Careful placement along the walls.
JohnA
Bless your heart. Why might that help a year old speaker you don't have and apparently haven't heard? 2

rackmeister
Maybe try searching again with the terms "Heresy IV" and "subwoofer".

Updating the crossover could be a good way to achieve this. I am curious to know how you would analyze the crossover to determine what needs changed. Are you proposing to just throw stuff at them according to what you have read on line or do you have actual analytical equipment and abilities to determine how to improve them? uteman1011
I kind of agree with OzBrit. Someone's got to take the leap and start modding the newest versions to see what changes happen. If there are higher quality or simply different caps to be used and tried, why not give it a shot? The sound may not be "better", maybe just different. Mr Crites did his thing, not necessarily looking for improvement. Did anyone go after him for suggesting mods or changes?
wetowne
You could make the cabinets an inch taller, add a flared port at the rear, use a different crossover and new mid range driver. Oh wait, Klipsch already did that. Sorry.
Deang
Crites was first and foremost a repair service. Bob discovered that old capacitors measure badly, and needed replacement. Bob never referred to this work as an “upgrade”, but a return to original performance. Bob didn’t think there was enough difference between these parts to get much excited about. They will not recap recent or current production.

I guess I like a plan of action with expectation of improvements based on prior work. What was being proposed sounded to me like "I read online about "x" caps so I am going to try those" and that was the whole plan. 10 minutes ago, Crankysoldermeister said: Crites was first and foremost a repair service. All the work he did for me was based purely on Klipsch OEM schematics. I suppose the Cornscalas were his design.

Easy to do with the vintage stuff, not so with the new. 1) high part count, so cost prohibitive. 2) Can’t find the right values. 3) No room on the board. BTW, there are no iron core inductors, they are steel laminate - they’re fine. I’m also pretty sure the tweeter section already has air cores.
