Tanner.
Hello, I am new here, I own a number of speakers, but I really wanted to try some older loudspeakers. I found these on a local classified ad. I am going to see them, but I don’t know a lot about the Heresy’s and what to look for, or how to tell if this is a good deal? Based on the photos, are there any “red flags” or questions I should ask? The one thing that caught my attention was the grill covers look different. I apologize if my question is vague, please let me know if there is any additional information I can provide, any help would be much appreciated! Thank you! Here is the title of the ad and description: LOWER PRICE! Klipsch Heresy I speakers Condition: Used - Good, minimal wear Good shape legendary speakers that began the audiophile craze. jcn3
@Tanner. -- speakers look like they're in good condition and the drivers appear original (i'm sure some of the forum experts can confirm whether the woofers are original or replacements). the grills are definitely NOT original and certainly the speakers don't look like heresys with them on. needless to say, the pegs aren't original either. i'd guess they were made in the early 80s.
Tanner.
@jcn3 thank you for your help! I was worried about the drivers, but that is good that they look original. Do you think $600 is a fair price?
jimjimbo
To me, the woofers don't look original. Look more like Crites replacements, which is a good thing. Depending upon a closer inspection of the cabinets and the interior, $600 is an OK price.
Schu
those are modified... Heresy never came with pins for the grills and those grills ARE NOT original. one woofer KIND OF looks original, and the other looks swapped. 300$ at most, maybe even less. geoff.
...that is a project, not a “set of history” too many red flags on the deal, for me and I love red flags, painting them yellow, and then ignoring them
wuzzzer
Yeah those are some interesting grilles. 🤔 That wouldn't dissuade me as long as the drivers were correct.

Tanner.
Thank you for all of the replies, I really appreciate it! When I talked to the seller he didn’t seem to know very much about the speakers. He originally had them posted for $750 and lowered the price to $600. I thought they looked a little off, but I didn’t know what to look for. This has been a lot of help! The grills are concerning, I would like to put original grills on them. He also said there was a chip on the veneer in the lower part of the cabinet (not shown in then photo), @geoff. I agree it really is starting to look more like a project, which I would be fine with, but probably not at that price point.
billybob
Yes, started high with those and still too high.
wuzzzer
Let the seller know I just purchased a pair for $400 a few months ago with original grilles and similar cosmetic condition from what you describe these as being.
geoff.
@Tanner., where are you located? If you are up for a project, keep your eyes peeled for Klipsch Pro gear, something packing the K-48 woofers would not fail to please.

Dave1291
@Tanner. Maybe 5 years ago I bought a pair of 81's in oiled walnut w/the K-55-V mid drivers. Two VERY small veneer chips on a lower edge. The lady said they bought them new and never abused them. $400 and her son wrapped his arms around them and carried them gently to my car. Patience is a virtue. Keep your eyes open cause they DO surface. Prices seem to be up but you NEVER know. Also, they WILL KICK BUTT! Good luck.

I had never considered the Klipsch Pro gear, but that is a great idea, I will look into that! Thank you!

Sometimes it is hard to remain objective when making a purchase, especially when options are limited, but you are right! They DO surface, I just need to keep an eye out! Unfortunately, at the moment, I can’t seem to find very many for sale in Utah, but something will come up! 1
