La Scalas: I can't read the serial numbers!

If there are no hammer-stamped numbers, it will be very difficult to date them.  The AA was introduced in 1971.  However, they have the Monster cable wiring.  This did not occur until sometime in the 80's.  They have been updated at some point.

The pair have "AA" crossovers and the serial numbers have faded. How can I determine anything about them?

They're post-1974, based on the location of the crossover and the flat floor of the HF section.  That indicates that the cabinet is the later bottom-loader, unlike the 1974 and earlier cabinets that access the woofer through the floor of the HF section.  Those ones are called top-loaders.  Yours could be a few years later, but are not earlier than 1974.

Also, the crossover has been updated.  Back then, the original capacitors were the old tin can style.  Those yellow ones you have are decades newer.  That's a good thing, because you don't have to replace the old ones, which would be in poor condition by now.

So how do they sound?  That's what really matters.
