Clue Me In To Wireless DACs

So 'splain something to me: A wireless DAC will allow me to stream audio from my Mac to the DAC, which I can plug in to any RCA input on my amp?

Say I want to stream youtube audio from my Mac to the stereo via the DAC- how does the Mac know to send the audio via bluetooth? Does the Mac

do this by default?

Do I need to pay big bucks for one of these wireless wonders? Recommend me something.

It would be nice to push the Mac's audio through my Heresy's vs. the tiny built-in speakers.

Are you referring to a Bluetooth adapter with RCA out to a preamp like this...

I don't do this, but here's a link that may help...

I don't have a Mac, but I have a similar setup. With my Windows computer, I set it up as a server in the settings and allow devices to connect to it either using a bluetooth signal or through the local area network. Once this is done and you pair the device to it, you can either select the computer from the desired receiving device, or it will pair automatically.

I am not sure why you state you need a wireless DAC, I guess it depends on your equipment setup. You can transmit analog and there are many devices that will transmit an analog input signal to you sound system. The equipment in your system will determine exactly what sort of device you need.

I have used an Auris BlueMe Pro and an Audioengine B-Fi which take a blue tooth signal from any bluetooth transmitting device and sends out an analog signal to your receiver, preamp etc. I can connect my phone, computer etc. to these devices to transmit to my audio system. These are network players too.

I didn't want to use wires in one system I have (drilling floor and wall holes for wires was a no-go), so I went with an SVS Tri Band. This uses a transmitter and receiver (or multiple receivers). Klark Teknik and Denon make similar systems.  I send an analog signal from a network audio player/pre-amp (Yamaha WXC-50) to the transmitter, then to two receivers, to two stereo amps, one for each left and right Klipschorns. Two stereo amps because the Khorns are bi-amped. This way I have the ability to input TV, DVD, CD etc. signals to my sound system wirelessly, while having the ability to adjust volume and other audio settings through Yamaha phone amp.

Depending on your budget and your setup, you might look into a high quality, affordable DAC with Bluetooth integrated into the DAC.

Quite a while ago I had a Bluetooth adapter/ receiver with RCA output and the quality was bad. Maybe they’ve gotten better, but if you can afford the extra $$$ I’d look into a new dac with Bluetooth built in.

I’ve been trying out some DACS and it’s frankly amazing how good of sound you can get with these new DACS. I’ve heard good things about this DAC and the company (no actual experience with either).

The science nerds at audioSciencereview seem to think highly of it https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/smsl-su-6-review-desktop-dac.28402/ . They also think that the DAC problem has been all but perfectly solved. I’m currently trying out this Topping E30ii https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B7MH5LX6?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details and it sounds great! (It’s not a Bluetooth DAC).

Im no expert, but I’m sure there’s some affordable products that will solve your problem and maybe improve your sound. I be heard some of the Bluetooth dac / amps from Parts Express sound great like this…https://www.parts-express.com/Dayton-Audio-HTA50BT-Hybrid-Stereo-Tube-Amplifier-with-Integrated-DAC-Sub-Out-and-Headpho-300-3844?quantity=1 I don’t have any experience with that integrated amp, but have bought from Parts Express many times.

Good luck with your search!
