Slates
Happy New Year Everyone. I picked up a new to me pair of KP-301s in Philly last week and hauled them back to Wisconsin. The cabinets are a bit banged up, so I did not have really high hopes for them. They have the metal screens. Plugged them in to a cheap blue tooth enabled amp, and WOW. The sound is mind blowing. My Chorus 2s are not this strong on either highs or lows. The clarity is amazing. Bass is strong, and the mid range and tweeter are very clear. With any music - jazz, hard rock, classical. And that is playing them in my garage. I read the threads on refinishing/rebuilding these and look forward to doing so. Will keep you all posted.
JL Sargent
Glad you are enjoying the 301s. Low end on the 301s is 50hz +-3db where the Chorus 2 is down to 39hz. The 301s do sound really good at higher volumes IMO. At normal listening levels though, I prefer the Chorus II.
Woofers and Tweeters
The larger mids will sound better on the Ch II. The 301 being front ported make them more placement friendly.
