Ken Mac
Hi Friends 👋 newbie here.  Am inching closer to (FINALLY!) purchasing the Heresy IVs. Current receiver is a Yamaha R-S500, I run my Technics SL-1200 through the Vincent PHO-701 tube phono preamp, and also have a Yamaha Blu Ray/SACD player.  Anyone have experience with that Yamaha line paired w/the Heresy IVs?
Idontknow
I used the Yamaha S501 for quite a while which is similar to yours. For what you pay, it's a good value. These Yamaha's will roll the top end off the Heresy with a warmer sound, but it lacks open sound and detail. If you are playing regular classic rock recordings which are pretty compressed anyway, it's probably fine in my opinion. Musically, tubes are just so far beyond and you can get them for very little money these days but if you prefer to stick with a Yamaha solid state, they are still a pretty good value. Best of luck on your choice. Heresy IV is a wonderful speaker.

But that amp will not reveal their full potential. You'll need tubes for that, and once you hear them that way, you'll never go back!" Buddy Shagmore
Â I have an upper level Yamaha integrated, the A-S2200 paired with Chorus IIs (bigger, older sibling to the Heresy). I am really pleased with the result, have no plans on going tube. I have plenty of tube guitar amps to satisfy my tube jones, and replacing bad tubes is costly, and a drag when you get a failure during a live performance. Â Not saying my solid state Yamaha is superior to tubes, it is just a different path that can yield superb results to those of us who choose to go this direction. Â But yes, an amp upgrade will surely yield a superior result with the H4s compared to what you currently have.

I think all my checking account will allow right now is a step up into the A-S801, which is apparently a universally adored integrated for the price.
