Bit by the Klipsch Bug

Hi all, new here. I've been a browser via Google searches for awhile now lol, but figured it was time to finally join.

Little background.. My wife and I (early 30s for hearing references) had a samsung all in one surround sound for a few years before I took her to our local heritage dealer a few months ago. At that time, I didn't know *anything* about home audio. My background was way more car audio oriented. But i was sick of seeing klipsch ads so I figured it was time to try some haha. The dealer did a demo on some RP600M II to get us started, and we were absolutely blown away by the sound they produced... long story short we ended up leaving there having ordered 2 RP8000 ii's and a 404c ii center and a Sony receiver (don't remember exact model offhand, puts 100w/channel). We absolutely love it. My wife's thing is watching movies. And that setup paired with her new LG oled and its... a very happy wife haha. I'm not done with it, will add a sub eventually, but in our small living room, the 8000s produce a good amount of bass on their own

Moving forward, I now have my own little gaming room setup. Just need some speakers! Convinced the wife to let me get something nice for in there too. I've been drawn to the heritage now for some reason. Joined a bunch of audiophile groups on FB, already in the klipsch groups, it's just all I see lol. I am definitely a music junky tho, so it makes sense. Metal is my genre of choice. Bands like Shadow of Intent and Whitechapel are 2 of my favorites for reference. So I've been browsing local marketplaces for about 2 months now, seeing what's out there and going rates... currently I have my eyes set on a pair of cornwall 1's...

I guess at this point, my biggest question would be... how well do the OG heritage speakers compare to to the newer speakers like our RP8000's? I understand that they're different in design, utilizing different components, enclosures, etc. Obviously the RP is entry level in comparison haha.. But everything I've read says that heritage speakers - even back to the early models of (in this case) the 80s - have incredible clarity and sound quality. And that makes me think, just *how* clear are they? The set of cornwalls I found are 2hrs away, so going to listen to them would be a long endeavor for sure. Haven't found many others, and definitely not any that are closer. Already have the crites website open on a tab as I've heard a lot of great things about his upgrades.. But I'm definitely interested in hearing opinions on overall sound clarity of pretty much any of the older models vs any of the newer models. Maybe I'm just skeptical because I'm new to the game and I haven't heard anything from that Era that was actually high end haha. But at the same time, going from what I had to what I have now, I really shouldn't be.

Looking forward to learning more from you guys here, and hearing your stories of how you got started and where you're at now. I know eventually I'll end up with some heritage line speakers myself, and hope they rock hard in my gaming room! Videogames sound great through headphones, but are much better through speakers. Can't believe it took me until I was 30 to get into another insanely expensive hobby that is home audio haha, but I am definitely bit by that klipsch bug!

Welcome! We'll be happy to help you spend your money.

I started with JBL studio monitors in the early '70s, and other than those, have only had Heritage Klipsch. Some large, some small. Currently have only Heresy IIs (they are up to the Heresy IV). The sound signature may be little different, depending on the series, but I will say they are all good to great, depending on your wants and needs.

I have five Heresys in my home theater.  They range in vintage from 1980 to 1984.  They sound absolutely awesome. At most, some vintage Klipsch only need a couple capacitors replaced in their crossovers to bring them up to new in terms of sound.

Not sure where you live but there’s a pair of Cornwall III for sale on this forum for $1,900 which is an incredible deal:

Welcome,

Any of the Heritage models are going to be clear and dynamic, with that great live sound we all enjoy. You will not go with the Heritage Series IMO.

I have the RP160m and some old RF3 towers so similar to the models you have. I recently bought Cornwall IVs and they are simply a better music speaker than the others. The midrange is more present and open giving you a bigger window into the recordings so to speak. They have a very open and live sound with a bit more relaxed top end than the RP line. The drivers are very well integrated and the big three way speaker sounds like one tight unit. I also have KLF 20s and for your type of music they are the best bang for the buck, though money aside the CWIVs do have a smoother midrange and more seamless integration. Plus the CWs are less in your face and a bit more forgiving of bad recordings. If you love the mid century modern look of the Heritage (I do) and can spring for it though, the Forte IVs or Heresy IVs would be awesome. Maybe look for B stock from Paducah Home Theater on eBay.

I ended up getting the local Cornwall 1's. They're 84 model year, so I guess they're the 1.5s! So far, absolutely loving them, even on my cheap yamaha reciever from my garage best buy 5.1 special haha (just wanted to use something to get me going for now). The sound stage is *so* much wider than I thought they might be. It's crazy how large they feel when you're sitting there with the lights off playing video games. Comparing them to the RP8000's and RP404 in our living room, the sound is noticeably different. I love the 3 way sound. Zero regrets getting these, and can't wait to upgrade reciever to one with a respectable amp. Will likely also upgrade internals as I can't leave anything alone and want to maximize the potential of these bad boys!

These make my 75" TV look small haha

Beautiful wall! Did you do that yourself?

Of course, the Corwalls look great and I'm sure they sound great.

Welcome, you and your wife, to the club.

Thanks!

And no, it was actually like that when we moved in haha. My house was built in the 30s, and I believe this room was added on at some point in probably the 60s or 70s based on what's under the wood panel (and some of the screws left in the panels). It's odd that there's a door in here, as that goes to a front porch that was added on, and maybe 15ft down is the actual front door we use. Wife was understanding that I needed a room for my "me time", and we figured this would work best. The walls have definitely grown on me! Only part I don't like is the fact that this room is off the living room where she spends her time, and the left RP8000 is pointed right at the doorway, but we make it work and she doesn't mind all my noise haha

I'm in the cleveland area

Cleveland Ohio or Cleveland Tennessee?

I grew up in Hamilton, down near Cincy....several hours from Cleveland.  Today, am in Knoxville....  maybe 90 minutes from Cleveland (TN)

Maybe Cleveland is trying to tell me something?

Welcome to the madness.  Your setup looks very nice!  Tomorrow's game will sound fantastic on it (as will most everything else)

Cleveland Ohio! I've been through the Cincy area a number of times over the years. Definitely a much different city than Cleveland haha. And as a Browns fan.. I was rooting for the Bengals in the playoffs.

And thank you! I think its a good start for now. I keep tinkering with the positions and whatnot, trying to find my perfect sound. They're incredible speakers given their age! I'm going to try to watch some movies soon and see how they do. I'm liking them for music so far (just using Spotify on my PC, I'm a bit of a hybrid... I like the old speakers, with some modern tech lol)

I had RF-62's for about 10 years and loved them.  Never thought I'd get rid of them.  I then bought a set of 1978 La Scala's and the RF-62's got sold shortly after.  Every time I hear them (every day as they come on with the TV), I am still enamored by the big sound, even at low volumes.  I sometimes hate that I love them so much, because they are large... but again, you hear them again and you remember why you keep them.
