WTB: Forte or Chorus... Traveling West to East on I80/I90 Mid June

I have a long car trip scheduled for mid June (driving my kid's car & stuff from Boise, ID to Albany, NY)... So, along the way I thought I'd try to pick up a pair of Forte's or Chorus. I have a pair of KP301-IIc's right now, which are used for the basement bar. I have had a lot of others over the years (KG-4, Heresy, KG-5, Forte, Cornwall) and I want to pick up a pair for a small listening room (12 x 16) to go with the really sweet Antique Sound Labs Wave AV-8 monoblocks I just picked up, (mostly for Jazz, Classical, and Ambient music). I'm hoping to keep the budget under $1500 for the Chorus, or under $1000 for the Forte, so I'm not looking for the Series IV models.

TIA

I know it's not on your list, but I just refinished a set of quartets if you're interested in the baby of the family.  It has the Crites upgraded crossovers and Ti tweeters, upgraded 10" woofers, cabinet bracing between the woofer and mid, and I refinished the cabinet in a beautiful color that I've done on several other speakers showcased in the forum.  I just thought I would throw it out there as an option.

Thanks for the offer... I'll see what comes up between now & the time I get back to Albany, and maybe I can get down to PA & take a look.

John,

Hello, I have a pair of Forte II’s in oiled oak, I am the original owner and they are in excellent condition. I live in Pottsville, Pa. 17901.

$1,000 cash. More pictures if interested.

Thanks,

Bob

Thanks for the offer... the Quartets are just a bit too small for the room I'm setting up.

Sure thing.  I just like options when it comes to buying things myself.

For reference, I have them set up in my 16x22 room with subs(as I firmly believe all klipsch speakers need) and they perform wonderfully.  The mids and tweets are all essentially the same in that line, with the major difference being the woofer and the cabinet size associated with making that woofer work. :)

Best of luck on your journey!

I can hook you up with either or both.

Timing will be key.

I'm pretty sure I won't be heading as far south as Lexington, but if my plans change because of the weather I'll let you know. Thanks!

I have a pair of kp301's that are modded for biamp (NOT biwire) use . they sound fine. I've been using them with an electronic over and a 4-ch power amp.
It's an easy one-wire-change to make them full range... HOWEVER

the woofs are currently klipsch 8-0hm, and the crossovers want an original 4 ohm load or the woof is 3-6dB quieter than it should be, hence the electronic xover.

THere's a story as to 'why' which was a fun experiment. I'm north of DC.

THese are the original black industrial finish

Well, on your trip if you need a chance to stretch your legs (and perhaps just listen to some speakers for fun) you are always welcome to stop by my place.  I'm less than 10 minutes off of I-88.

You can at least do an A/B comparison between my RF-7's and highly modified Quartets.

I forgot to ask: how much for the Quartets?

  • Well... the trailer ended up full, thanks to my friend convincing me that I needed to bring home the Cornwalls that wouldn't fit in his home, so no room for anything else!

Speakers are like jello- there's always room.
