Versatile Stands for Heresy

Recommended Posts

Hi all,
My "new" 1974 Heresys sound great on the floor, but I wanted to try to make some "versatile" stands to do some positioning tests.
Of course they are homemade stands and have no audiophile pretensions, but they serve the purpose well, they are not expensive, and they are adjustable in height both on the front and back...and I forgot...they are very easy to make.
You will need:
2 pieces of 2 cm plywood measuring 30x35 cm;
4 pieces of 2 cm plywood measuring 30x8 cm;
6 screws not too big
A little acrylic paint;
Straw oil;
Felt pads or foam strip to isolate the parts in contact with the floor.

In practice, the realization can be seen in the photos, make two series of three holes on the 30x8 pieces, using the 30x35 piece as a guide, so as to allow screwing in 2 positions (flush with the base so as to have a front height of 8 cm, or 2 cm lower so as to have a front height of 6 cm.
The same thing goes for the rear supports that will act as anti-slip shoulders.
I gave a couple of coats of black acrylic and then, when dry, a good coat of straw oil.
After assembly, I colored the heads of the screws with a black permanent marker.
If desired, on the edges that touch the floor you can attach felt pads or a strip of foam or insulating rubber.
Good listening
Sergio

Looks good. I have seen others putting them on even higher stands to get the treble up to ear height. I suppose that would still be considered heresy by some - pun intended - but with the widespread acceptance and use of subs with Heresys it seems to work very well.

I prefer subwoofers myself, but use a small metal stand when I take my HII traveling.

Yes, I also tried keeping them raised by about 50 cm, but I prefer to keep them low as per the original design.
I made the stands to imitate the position of the Heresy series 3 and 4 a bit and see if they are actually better.
I think I'll try to lower the front by 2cm, screwing the faceplate onto the second set of holes.
It's nice to experiment!
At the moment I'm testing them with my "new" purchase which I have just finished restoring a nice Pioneer Pl12d...also a device about 50 years old!
It all sounds good!
Greetings Sergio
