Klipsch RB-5 possible setup

Recommended Posts

Ok I was thinking about this and realized I have some additional Klipsch that I can use …for my potential new system

Hi peeps .. thinking of using my Dad’s old Klipsch RB 5 bookshelves speaks for living room home theater/music use. was initially thinking of purchasing RP-8000f ii but may not have to!!

They would go with my current GoldenEar super sub xxl. And Parasound A52 125 watt Halo multichannel amp and Parasound 2125 two channel amp . Yammie CXA5200 pre/pro. Rotel CD , Oppo 205. And Technics SL1200mk5  with Audio technica VM740ml and Zphono pre by Parasound.

And Infinity Entra rear speaks/atmos rears.  I was using Def Tech 7002 powered bipolar towers , but in this new home they just seem to over power the room no matter what it seems /and or the powered subs and/or bipolar placement , very hard to integrate —even when the subs when reduced or crossed over —just sound too muddy/indistinct for most music and pretty ok for HT. But mostly not nearly as great as they were in the old home. I only just recently got to hook them up again …

For reference current ear level on couch is 47 inches ****

If I did use the Klipsch RB 5s again — I am thinking will be better overall. I just need to determine how high of stands to get off the floor

The Monoprice 32 “ inch stands that hold up to 75 pounds per stand seem great. That would be 49 inches off the floor and I would think that would work for these.  If anyone has any insight I appreciate it. I thought read somewhere the rec height for the RB 5s was different. So I don’t know if that’s too much or good enough for this application — then again my Dad had his up like 96 plus inches on high bracketed shelves and he loved them that way. So really not sure if I should maybe get the 24 or 28 inch stands instead. May not have to in this situation.

They seem to be versatile tho. I used them in a different application in my loft and they worked well for awhile before I decided on another change.

They are just sitting there and I figured now might be the time to use them again based on my Def Tech issue.  Withought having to go out and buy anything other than a new center and some stands.

I hope my Infinity Entra rear atmos mesh ok , I think they might do fine. Even tho they are like 90 db sensitivity. The Klipsch real rated sensitivity might be closer to 94 or 95 bc I know sometimes they could be specced a little higher on paper. (96 on the spec sheet) or may have to turn the levels up on the pre/pro to compensate with the Klipsch.

Anyways —

If do this I will be putting a Klipsch center RP-600 C seems to be the best match for the money — on a shelf above my LG 65 inch. The shelf will def be a little bit higher than the RB 5’s. Likely 65 inches off the floor or so. Which should work I would think.

Also I would have Klipsch out into the room .. about 29 inches from my front wall approx from the back of the speakers.

Any insight or advice I sincerely appreciate fellow Klipsch peeps. 🙂 thank you 🙏

thanks again :)

I ordered some stands to try these. I am thinking to either cross these over in my pre/pro at 40 or 60hz and then let the GE subwoofer do the rest ? Would that be ok ? The specs say 48 hz they go down to .. but I wonder if in room response is a bit lower ? Anyone know ? Thanks again peeps :)

Specifically “Small” at either 40 or 60 hz

there is an option to run these as large and they are quite large bookshelf speakers as far as bookshelf speakers go. So I guess that could be an option too , not sure how that would go.

thx ☺️

Yes you can cross  at 60 for some overlap of bAss, experiment with 80. Would try large or small... experiment and yes room response. Sounds like a good plan. Nice system...

Would the RP-600C center be as decent a match as could be made with my RB-5’s ? Or ? Thank you 🙏 it seems to be really well made and gets good reviews for dialogue intelligibility and effects based on what I was reading on Crutchfield reviews.

Even tho my RB 5s are older I would hope I could still get a halfway decent match.

The only thing is I have Infinity Entra .5 rear speakers but I would think I could get away with mixing those for awhile with the Klipsches. They fit perfectly behind the couch.

Thinking that you are being realistic About expectations.

Sure why not. There is the future for changing.

in my smaller 3.1 "home theater" I am using RB-5s as mains, an RC-3 for the Center (it works just fine although the RC-7 would be the favorite from what members here say) and an Outlaw Audio M8 subwoofer...works just fine powered by a Panasonic SA-XR57 digital receiver...

Good luck with your Dad's RB-5s...although I prefer Klipsch heritage, the RB-5s are almost the best bookshelf speaker ever made by Klipsch (RB-75 is the fan favorite)
