MJada
Thanks all. Some interesting amps mentioned. I’d like to go tube this time around and have been looking at NAT, Aric, Ottomon Labs and more. I have a fetish for Japanese tube amps. I listen to a lot of rock, metal, punk and stuff like that so I’m not sure which direction to go. I listen at 75-95 db about 9 feet from the front baffle. Everyone making 300b amps these days and I met a dude who plays slayer with an Audio Note Meishu!

Schu
My experience with Tubes is in direct conflict with yours... I have nothing but great listening sessions with Tube based Amplification AND Pre-Amplication that is not really captured by Solid State in my experiences... They are different. 1

MJada
@Silverfoxvtx1800 I’ve been only solid state so far and if I stay that way a Coda amp is in my future. that said, 300b tubes intrigue me. Can 8 wpc bring the thunder on Heresy 4’s?
RobMarshall
A 2wpc SET 45 tube amp sounds amazing.

On my AL5, the 45 SET works great with rock, but the specific characteristics that make this amplifier so special don't really match this style of music. The 45 SET adds something magical to the vocals, revealing a lot of fine detail. It all sounds very musical and realistic. This matches perfectly with acoustic instruments, jazz, etc., making this amplifier a perfect match for this type of music for me. However, these aren't quite the qualities you're looking for if you enjoy music that bangs, has a strong beat, or a lot of dynamics. In that case, you're looking for an amplifier that can keep the music with a lot of dynamics well under control and can reproduce the low frequencies sufficiently and tightly.
richieb
Agree on Pass, Labs or First Watt, on Heritage and would imagine a wide variety of other speakers. I actually preferred the FW F3 and more so the F5 to the XA25 which I found a bit too “laid back”. Like the XA25 the F3 is more a “mellower” presentation. So far Bruno Putzey has recently come the closest but has not ye equalled the AHB2 for noise. This is I think an amp best serviced at the factory. If you find out more please let me know. You would do yourself a favor to listen to one or two. My brother liked mine so much he bought two to bi amp his two way JBL loudspeakers. I am using a Quad 66 with my 303. you need to do some listening as you are who knows what sounds best. I have not listened to the new Quad products but they have always been very good and very well balanced sounding amplifiers. While not the lowest noise level or the lowest distortion or even a complimentary design (it is a quasi complimentary output stage) the 303 is a very good sounding amplifier and one I have always liked in fact in some ways I preferred it to the stock 405. So do some listening and find an amp that makes your speakers happy. System matching will be critical to a achieving a wonderful sounding system.
geezin'
I've been using my Topping PA3s with my Heresy 1. Been considering new amps. Don't have enough experience with audio to know what different types sound like. Nor much money to spend. I like the PA3s just want to try more power and another types of amp. I believe the Topping LA-90 Discrete (or not) will be an interesting amp with the Heresy. I'll try a single amp first and if I like the sound then buy another. Anyone have experience with one? Or two?

I am not primarily interested in being able to carry out repairs myself. I'm happy to leave that to the trained specialists. However, in the future, say 20 years from now, it will be an invaluable advantage to have an exact circuit diagram in case the company no longer exists...which can always happen in this business. I'm interested in knowing that it is public how exactly the circuit works in the amp and how it functions. Not that I personally would understand everything but it would give me more confidence to buy an expensive product if it is not a black box and a third experts party would be able to fix it. I would imagine that ten or twenty years from now Benchmark may make the schematic available to the public as the amp may have been replaced by then. Who can say? In twenty years from now I may be dead so I am not overly concerned but I appreciate your concern. I would not let that stop you from giving the amp an audition.
